PunkKitty Posted August 18, 2014 Posted August 18, 2014 I decided I wanted to try some PAF's in my 150 again. I decided on a new set of Dimarzio 36th Anniversary PAF's that I had. I tried installing covers on the set. But the pickup routs are kind of tight for covers. I remember that I had problems with the Fralin 92's when I installed them. So I'm sticking with open coils for this guitar. I like these pickups. But the mids are really scooped so I'm not sure that I love them. I'll give them more time before I decide. I'm honestly not sure if I like the double cream pickup look or not.
davesultra Posted August 18, 2014 Posted August 18, 2014 I like the double creme look on that one. To me it looks better than zebras would, or double black. But a nice slightly tarnished set of nickel covers would look killer on that one!
Beagle216 Posted August 18, 2014 Posted August 18, 2014 I am a huge fan of double cream... So I say leave them!
AP515 Posted August 18, 2014 Posted August 18, 2014 I'm honestly not sure if I like the double cream pickup look or not. Better than Zebras
tulk1 Posted August 19, 2014 Posted August 19, 2014 I think it would look nifty sweet with nickel covered PAFs. But .... Looking good isn't necessarily the litmus test here, is it? Do you like the sound or not?
brentrocks Posted August 19, 2014 Posted August 19, 2014 Double creams are the way to go....looks great!!!
PunkKitty Posted August 24, 2014 Author Posted August 24, 2014 I decided that I didn't like the scooped sound of the Dimarzios so I put the Fralin P92s in. However the neck pickup cavity is a bit tight and I couldn't adjust the height properly. So I had a set of Sheptone Tributes on the shelf. I removed the covers to reveal zebra coils. I'd prefer double cream. But zebras will work. I installed them. They may be the best sounding PAF I've ever played. They are just amazing. I think they are going to stay.
kidsmoke Posted August 24, 2014 Posted August 24, 2014 Yay for the sheptones. Still fall in love with mine everytime I plug in.
hinesarchtop Posted August 24, 2014 Posted August 24, 2014 That looks really nice! Was it so tight with covers that you couldn't adjust pickup height? Aged nickle covers would look great too.
PunkKitty Posted August 24, 2014 Author Posted August 24, 2014 I couldn't adjust pickup height with the covers on and I didn't want to take a Dremel to my 150. The Sheptones came with aged nickel covers and screws. I pulled the covers and replaced the screws.
