A Natural 1994 Super Eagle w/ single routed humbucker, w/a DiMarzio PAF. It's really a great pup, under wound, and very articulate.

This archtop is in many respects a custom, featuring an upgraded wood package, an extra 1/4" body depth, and upgraded triple w-b-w F hole binding. She's parallel braced.

To quote the seller, "a perfect trade off between a fully acoustic 18" arch top and one with an inset pup."

No argument there - The 1/4" greater depth, than traditionally found on SE's, is noticeable. There's a pronounced tone bottom, and the gutiars got more acoustic volume...very close to my former SKB.

Okay, its been a while since I've been seeking a single HB 18" archtop...be careful what you ask for? smile.png Well, at any rate, she'll be a nice balance to my 17" GE acoustic w/ the Bene' floater.

I'm glad that went to a good home.

The dimensions of the guitar are at the limit of what the average man can comfortably play as a working professional. It provides an enhanced bottom range and more volume.

Back in the big band era there were a few 19" guitars but very few. I guess playing one of those back then was like plugging into multiple stacks of Marshalls in the 1960s- shock and awe.

I believe your new SE is at the edge of reasonable boundaries. The extra 1/4" depth is not only noticeable in tone but in feel.

The wood is beautiful. The added binding is classy. The pup is a great choice to capture the subtleties of this wonderful instrument.

Congrats.

Beautiful Super 2born! Nice combo of options. I think I remember this guitar for sell at Gruhns shop years ago. It looks like its had a nice refret.

This guitar was built without nibs per its custom order.

There are some guys who prefer that. I'm indifferent but don't see any advantage in running the binding over the fret edges. Is there any?

The other interesting thing about this guitar is the controls placement. Usually single pup archtops have the pots on the other side of the F hole. For a professional player who uses more than one electric guitar, it makes sense to place them here.

The binding nibs are only beneficial for a certain feel in my estimation. They are a pain in the butt to carve when building a new fingerboard. They also make refret jobs tough if the customer wants to keep them. They can be troublesome if they detach from the fret giving the outer strings a place to catch. Given everything that I just stated I actually prefer them. The job done on Greg's guitar looks highly detailed. It was probably done by Ren. The ends are all very nicely rounded. Just a beautiful instrument!

thx all...yes, she was originally ordered without nibs...Having recently spent 8 months with an Artist Award, which omits nibs, I got used to living with an archtop without nibs. A lack of nibs is completely acceptable...and I've been accused of being a breast man. :icon_thumright:
