skydog52 Posted August 21, 2014 Posted August 21, 2014 Apparently there are many variations of the "Burst"
skydog52 Posted August 22, 2014 Posted August 22, 2014 VIC DAPRA is considered to be one of the world's leading experts on vintage electric Gibson guitars. He has four books published about 1958-1960 Gibson Les Paul Sunbursts. DaPra started collecting guitars in 1971 because of his hero Jimmy Page, and he currently spends his time chasing vintage guitars and sharing stories of the ones that got away.
Gitfiddler Posted August 22, 2014 Posted August 22, 2014 I was showing Dave up in finishing the color I wanted. He said it looked like a Brockburst. He had the book Beauty of the Burst up there and showed me a picture of the Brockburst and I said that's it. He did a nice job recreating that color. Danny you have a real beauty there! I believe that is supposed to be DaPra. Vic DaPra I can't tell you how many times I viewed that amazing 150 when it was for sale on Gbase. Great that one of the HOC faithful continues to own it.
HANGAR18 Posted August 25, 2014 Author Posted August 25, 2014 Sweet! Welcome to the club. Here's mine. Wow! That's nice!!
hinesarchtop Posted August 28, 2014 Posted August 28, 2014 I love the subtle differences between different burst finishes. I'm trying to share some pics but my files are too large. The Brock burst is gorgeous.
hinesarchtop Posted August 28, 2014 Posted August 28, 2014 This is one that I've shared before. I built it a few years back for a guy in California. It's somewhat of a darkburst. The spraying/shading is my favorite part. It makes it all come to life.
HANGAR18 Posted August 28, 2014 Author Posted August 28, 2014 It seems that this is a very popular color scheme. I recently noticed that two of my guitars (this Brockburst and another one from Brand X) had the exact same colors used, only with a different spray pattern.
