MartyGrass Posted August 31, 2014 Posted August 31, 2014 This 1989 Sweet 16 came with tarnished gold but others a great specimen. I stripped off the PG and took out the electronics. I noticed that it could use a felt pad under the pot to protect the top, so that was a quick fix. The elbow PG brace cleaned up fine. The top cleaned up with Virtuoso cleaner. Then I went a little nuts. I cut a new bridge saddle to spread the strings out a little. And I fitted the saddle so it rested with the bridge thumbwheels all the way down. The old timers claimed this improves acoustic tone. But it is a PITA to get it fitted right. Here's before. There's a small gap under the thumb wheels. Here's after. Note the felt pad under the pot. I'm afraid the gold remains tarnished, although it looks much better after cleaning it with Fitz and applying carnauba wax. I don't think it needs replating. If you decide to fit a bridge base to the top and to have the saddle all the way down, have plenty of sand paper and time.
Kuz Posted September 1, 2014 Posted September 1, 2014 A lot of good work done there, Mark. Nicely done.
Vanschoyck Posted September 1, 2014 Posted September 1, 2014 I love what you did with the bridge; I'd say worth the time. I really like the color on that one too.
Ned Posted September 1, 2014 Posted September 1, 2014 A lily guilded. Thank you for all the information you've shared over the years. When the historians come, much of what is known of the second incarnation of Parsons street will come from you.
hinesarchtop Posted September 2, 2014 Posted September 2, 2014 These older, high end Heritage guitars are getting harder to come by. We better snatch em all up before prices creep up....it may take a while, but it will happen. The owners are all getting up in years. Who knows what the future holds???
MartyGrass Posted September 2, 2014 Author Posted September 2, 2014 You have way more patience than I. Doubt that, Robin Hood. After a half hour on the range my arms were shaking.
Keith7940236 Posted September 2, 2014 Posted September 2, 2014 Very nicely done. Really a beautiful instrument!
