Redsand Posted September 27, 2014 Posted September 27, 2014 Could be something, could be nothing but I've heard some recent chatter about a probable and substantial pricing increase across the board for all Heritage models. I'd be interested to know if Gibson's recent pricing increases have played a role in this "chatter"?
DOGBOY Posted September 27, 2014 Posted September 27, 2014 If my biggest competitor raised prices 29% I would call that an opportunity. Like any other business if your going to depend on lower volumes you need higher margins. Nobody wants to pay more for their new Heritage but I wouldn't blame them if they did just that.
DetroitBlues Posted September 27, 2014 Posted September 27, 2014 Heritage has been going up a little bit every year. People here are selling some of their Heritages for the same price used as when they bought it new years ago. I suffered from sticker shock when I tried to price out a custom Heritage.

Out of curiosity, how much does a custom build come to? I know it depends on specs, but I was thinking (more like daydreaming) about a custom build today and wondering how much that actually comes to?
Redsand Posted September 27, 2014 Author Posted September 27, 2014 Personally, I think a 29% pricing increase could benefit both new guitar sales and help establish a floor on the Heritage secondary market. A lot of folks may not realize it but John Q Consumer typically responds quickly to these types of sudden price increases in most markets especially the high end boutique musical gear market. ......and if the cost of a new Heritage is increased the value of used Heritage would naturally increase as well, right?

This one cost me $2500.00 back in June, however, I could have had it built thru a different dealer for $2200.00 had I done a little more shopping around. Lesson learned. Even at $2500 I feel this Prospect is a steal as it couldn't look/sound/play any better to me!!

Vanschoyck Posted September 27, 2014 Posted September 27, 2014 Bob Benedetto once told me that he set his price according to his wait time. At the time his clients had a wait of two years. What he said was if the wait time got longer (he couldn't keep up with the orders) he would increase his price. At that time his starting price was 20k. When he told me that I laughed and then he laughed and we both laughed.
Gitfiddler Posted September 27, 2014 Posted September 27, 2014 Heritage has its own business model. They are very unique in how, what and when they do things. Bottom line however, if they plan on surviving in the forseeable future, they will need to raise prices, at least to keep up with inflation, wages, materials, (cost of goods sold), etc.

Thanks for the info Redsand. 2.2 to 2.5k sounds quite reasonable for a nice guitar like yours. A custom build seems less like a daydream suddenly That makes me wonder now why in Japan new Heritages sell for upwards of 3.5k...? Some weird inflation going on there.

If Heritage can raise prices I say good for them. The cost of doing business has to go up for them every year.
HANGAR18 Posted September 28, 2014 Posted September 28, 2014 Heritage seems to have always been a great bargain to anyone who can afford a good Gibson and is willing to pay that much money for a guitar. The last good Gibson I bought was $2617.00. Both of the brand new Heritage guitars I have ever bought in my life (one in 2008 and one in 2014) were a great deal at almost $400.00 cheaper. (YMMV) Even if Heritage prices go up, either a little or a lot in 2015, I think they will remain "a real bargain" compared to brand G. Not only that, but I think the used Heritage market will continue to put $2500.00 guitars into the hands of people who can only afford $1200.00-$1500.00 for a guitar. An even better bargain!
Ghostbound Posted October 1, 2014 Posted October 1, 2014 My Custom Heritage H555 (which should be arriving within the next week) came to $2700, which is a steal considering it is completely and utterly handmade in the USA. - Alec
