ironmike Posted October 26, 2014 Posted October 26, 2014 any one put a strap or strap with a button on a 575? howd'ya do it?
barrymclark Posted October 27, 2014 Posted October 27, 2014 I put one on my 575. I used a small drill bit to make a pilot hole in the heel cap. Done.
peterbright Posted October 27, 2014 Posted October 27, 2014 I have had one on every guitar I've owned including an H575.
Steiner Posted October 27, 2014 Posted October 27, 2014 The 575 tailpieces have 3 fasteners holding them to the rim. Put a straplock on one of the 3 fasteners; works like a charm!
Gitfiddler Posted October 27, 2014 Posted October 27, 2014 Here are some tips from Stewart McDonald's site: http://www.stewmac.com/How-To/Online_Resources/Hardware_Installation/Wheres_the_best_spot_for_your_strap_button.html Here are some areas on your 575 that you can mount it:
ironmike Posted October 27, 2014 Author Posted October 27, 2014 is there an endpin jack that'll fit through the bridge that you'all know of?, maybe then i can just go with a headstock tie in
DetroitBlues Posted October 27, 2014 Posted October 27, 2014 You can always use a cord under the strings behind the nut method as well. Many acoustics are like that.
ironmike Posted October 27, 2014 Author Posted October 27, 2014 that's what i'm leaning toward. and endpin jack and a string on the headstock,if that doesn't do it, then i'll think about drilling.
MartyGrass Posted October 27, 2014 Posted October 27, 2014 I took a Sweet 16 to Heritage to have a strap button put on. Ren did it in about a microsecond. Since then I've done dozens. It's very easy. Ren taught me a couple of things that help. First, don't drill until you know what position you want the button in. That really can be the hardest part of the whole process, but all five of the positions shown above can work well. The second thing he taught me is to put a tiny black felt tip dot where you want to drill. Once you put the drill to the wood you won't get as good a view. The third thing is to know how deep to drill. Ren had a stop on the drill bit. Another way is to take the magic marker and put a line on the drill bit to indicate the depth. Lastly, put a lubricant on the screw when you drive it into the hole. Some use soap. I use mineral (lemon) oil because it is handy. You can put a strap button on the rim portion of the tailpiece very easily. You don't have to loosen the strings. I've done that on my archtops with input jacks on the end and find that it works well. I had used leather strap locks that go over the input jack. These work okay but are less reliable. http://elderly.com/new_instruments/items/SK2.htm
ironmike Posted October 28, 2014 Author Posted October 28, 2014 like you said, the hardest pert is deciding where you're gonna drill the hole.
peterbright Posted November 3, 2014 Posted November 3, 2014 I have always preferred position number 5 but number 2 is fine as well.
