Heritage H150PM Plus Weight? Very, Very, lightweight...

Hi,

I am a new owner of a Heritage H150PM. There are no decent boutique guitar shops around in driving distance, so I have to order blindly and then get hit with credit card and restocking fees if I have to return a guitar for not liking it. What is the average weight of your H150? Mine is a 2014 model and seems too light. I would say that this guitar weighs around 7 pounds. That seems too light for a single cutaway solid body. I was hoping for something between 8 and 10 pounds. It feels like a tele when holding it. Very, Very, light. Does light mahogany resonate as well as heavier mahogany? Anyway, just curious at weights, as I have not been able to play the guitar yet. It is sitting in its case as I wait to get off work. I just picked it up from FedEx during my lunch break. LOL. Thanks for your responses.

I'm sure someone would like the lighter weight.

7lbs. seems unusually light for a 150. My 170LW is 8lbs. I also would have to believe that someone 'round here would love a 7lb. H-150.

My 150 is 9.2lbs, which I think of as light for a 150. 7 seems... unusual. But (to me) would be intriguing!

I would doubt that it's chambered, but you'd be able to see that in the control cavity.

It would be interesting to put it on a digital scale and get an accurate reading of the weight....

Is it a H150P (Poplar) ?

I think it is Poplar. I can tell you that a guitar I own is Swamp Ash - and is very light (but very resonant). I'm not sure weight always adds up to resonance and sustain - I have had both light and heavy guitars that were great acoustically, and vice-versa. Some of the heavy guitars I had seemed dead.

The plain top 150s were called a H-150PM ( the one discussed here is a 2014) Ironically some had a Plus top.... kind of a plaintop plus top...

My 157 is about 9 1/2 lbs. My Melancon T is 6 1/4 lbs. The 157 sustains nicely, but the Melancon rings like a bell! Its all in the wood.

I haven't heard of anyone getting a recent poplar one. But I can tell you that lightweight isn't necessarily a bad thing, especially if you have to hold it for 2 hours.

I had a Poplar 150 once and it was around 8lbs.

If it's a 2014 model, I'll bet it's one of the Plain top models from Jay Wolfe's.

That's what I was going to say. PM = Plain Maple

Jay says that the guitars that Heritage builds for him use a Honduran Mahogany which he goes on to say are lighter and have better tone.

Regardless, it's a Heritage and one day you might like the lighter guitar. So keep it for a while and see how you like it.

Just my two cents worth.

I'm certain a few members would trade their heavier guitars for it.

OK, So I really appreciated everyone's responses... I just realized that my scale is broken and is inaccurate!! I am guessing it was a pound off. I started weighing guitars that I already knew the weight and guess what?? They were off. This one weighs probably around 8 pounds or slightly more. I will need to purchase a new dig scale. Sorry guys!!

I've got a 9.4 pound 150 I'll trade if that 8 pounder keeps floating up past your shoulders...

Amen to that. I'd still have a 150 if it weighed that.

I have an LW (light weight) H 150. It's chambered and sustains 'for days' as they say. I tend to prefer light weight guitars, the lighter the better.

As others have said, if you wanted to trade it off for a heavier guitar, I'm sure you'd have no problem finding a taker.
