ironmike Posted October 30, 2014 Posted October 30, 2014 just picked this up today, it's a 2012 model, spruce top, mahogany everything else, it has light strings on it presently the way i bougght it, i'm gonna haver to wait for my TE 14 guage a week or two, but i have some thirteens from dd to put on for now, it's a nice compliment to my maple 575..
ironmike Posted October 30, 2014 Author Posted October 30, 2014 just put some dd 13's on there, this box just woke up! i love it!....i thing we'll have a thing together!
schundog Posted October 30, 2014 Posted October 30, 2014 Congratulations, that's a sweet 575 with some BLING! Block inlays, bound headstock. Is the top half of that darker than the bottom half, or is that lighting? Enjoy it, man; love my 575!
ironmike Posted October 30, 2014 Author Posted October 30, 2014 that's just the lighting, the laquer finish over the grain acted like polarized sun glasses!
Vanschoyck Posted October 30, 2014 Posted October 30, 2014 Ooooh, that's delightful! You're going to love that.
Gitfiddler Posted October 30, 2014 Posted October 30, 2014 Again, congrats on a sweet Spruce-Mahogany Custom 575!
jimsoloway Posted October 30, 2014 Posted October 30, 2014 I'd love to hear more details about the tone. I have the same wood combination coming in a few weeks. I have lots of theories about how is ought to sound, but it would be interesting to hear from someone who's actually got one.
ironmike Posted October 30, 2014 Author Posted October 30, 2014 i'll tell you best i can jim, i have it strung right now with dd 13s jazz round wounds, concert pitch, and i played for three or four hours last night after i settle up with the truss rod(i'm a stickler on a flat neck with very little relief,) any way, i pluger her into an old supro amp, which is a basic rca design tube amp, rectifier,2 6L6 tubes ,an ax7 ans a 7025, one volume, one tone switch, and a 15 inch jbl k series speaker, i run the amp about 30 % on the volume and back the guitar pots off to bring the volume just about the same as the acoustics of the box, with that deal, in a live situation i mic the guitar acoustically and the amp..what can i say next? overtones everywhere, this thing is a baby grand steinway, truly the nicest sounding archtop i have ever played in my life, although i did play a d'angelico new yorker in 1976,i'd say it's right there in quality..albeit a different guitar. but certainly exchangeable in many of it's qualities, i dig pickups, they are microphonic, but i'm a seasoned old bull and that's fine for me,the clarity it amazing..i been thinking seriously about divorcing my es335 and my old 330 and getting grand piano version.
rockabilly69 Posted December 4, 2014 Posted December 4, 2014 Custom. Congrats! Two things that intrique me about this picture... 1) the little Tascam 4 track 2) the Supro amp!!! 3) oh yeah, nice guitar:) So no reason not to record a few good clips for us!!!
