How long before you miss them?

So I'm sitting in the Beijing airport right now, waiting for my flight back the the good old USA. I'm thinking of all the things I'm going to do. I leave Friday evening and after a 13 hour flight I get home Friday evening. I'm going to go shopping Saturday and buy all the foods I've been missing. I'll have jet lag after 2 weeks almost exactly halfway around the world, so I'll probably nap Saturday afternoon. But I have been missing playing my 150. I've been missing it for about a week now. I keep rubbing my left hand fingertips to see if I'm losing my calluses (which I am).

Maybe some of you who use your guitars for a living, are nevewr away from then enough to missing them. How about the rest of us. How long before you wish you had it close?

It's better than what happened to me a couple of years ago where I accidentally cut my left index finder pretty bad and I couldn't tough a guitar string with it for about 8 months.

Travel safe!

I agree take one with you, buy one there or borrow one.

I try to find a guitar shop on my travels... But then again, I rarely travel anymore.... I'd imagine a little traveler guitar may not be allowed on airlines, particularly international flights...

I was in Shanghai and Hong Kong for 2 weeks and you better believe I brought my Yamaha silent Guitar.

Though strangely, the Asian airlines although very nice and full of amenities (I saw 6 movies in a row of my choosing on the way back), ALWAYS hassled me about the guitar. No other flights have done that to me.

Players that name their guitars (e.g. Kate and Rissa) are obviously way too close to them. They need their own airline ticket.

I miss mine too when I travel. No place like home... :icon_salut:

Back in the day when I traveled as training coordinator for my company (1999-2004), I sometimes took a guitar with me when I was going to be gone all week. Usually "being gone all week" meant that I would leave on Sunday and return on Friday. That was much too long a period to be without a guitar. If I couldn't take a guitar along, I always found a guitar store to get some play time in. Seldom did I go without playing for the entire time I was gone.

Now days, I rarely travel overnight. I have returned to a sales territory, am home every night and play every day. I like this a whole lot better.

Having been in the hospital for almost 3 weeks now, I can only say that I miss them all so dearly and cannot wait to return home to give them some love.

Get well soon and have someone smuggle one in.

My Beijing trips are ususally 2 weeks, and I've taken a guitar on many previous trips. I have one of those Vox amPlugs and earphones that let you travel light and still have fun. But this time I knew it would be 10 hour days and I'd just crash at the hotel so I left the travel rig behind. Next time I'll take it anyway.

Thanks for the stories folks. Nice to know I'm not alone.
