md54 Posted November 6, 2014 Posted November 6, 2014 I have just been told Heritage has gone out of business. Is this true? I hope not.

HANGAR18 Posted November 6, 2014 Posted November 6, 2014 I've encountered a number of Heritage Dealers in my travels who thought Heritage was out of business.

kidsmoke Posted November 6, 2014 Posted November 6, 2014 I've encountered a number of Heritage Dealers in my travels who thought Heritage was out of business. That's funny...whether you meant it or not. Â Â My browser won't load the blog but I wouldn't put a lot of trust in some Gibby blogger comments. Â And this is true. The OP is responding to a simple statement from a random poster on the Gibson product board.
Frank67 Posted November 6, 2014 Posted November 6, 2014 Not True. .... Phhhh, nicely recovering :-) Â I wish Heritage many glorious years to come!
FredZepp Posted November 6, 2014 Posted November 6, 2014 The troll on that blog says it's because they couldn't find qualified young people to replace them .... that could not be farther from the truth. Â One visit to that historic plant and you'll witness that they have done a great job training younger people to do the work and to carry on the Heritage of Kalamazoo. I think that it's an aspect that the original owners are quite proud of.
PunkKitty Posted November 6, 2014 Posted November 6, 2014 There are young guitarists that would love to apprentice at a company like Heritage. I would do it just for the experience even if it involved moving to KZoo.
Gitfiddler Posted November 6, 2014 Posted November 6, 2014 Heritage hating trolls have been predicting and wishing for the demise of the company for years now. Â Someone needs to put one of the many amazing Heritage guitars in his hands and see how fast the Gibson brainwashing disappears.
peterbright Posted November 6, 2014 Posted November 6, 2014 You can't cure stupid and I have given up trying to do so.
BrianToth Posted November 6, 2014 Posted November 6, 2014 I was in the Gibson van at the Chicago Bluesfest and when I mentioned Heritage all they could respond with was "Gone over to the dark side have you?" Heritage will never do the volume of Gibson, but what they do, they do better.

Millennium Maestro Posted November 6, 2014 Posted November 6, 2014 Hardly, I have spoken to the guys 3 or 4 time a week for the last month... They are always there! Â From what I saw at the plant summer of 2014 there is a new infusion of Highly motivated employees that have strong interest in the future of the company. Another thing I saw was a strong vol,ume of guitars being prepped for overseas delivery, I also understand there is an overseas district rep that wanted 50% of the limited edition 157 to go to his district! Â From what I see, the company is surviving using an Old School business model that limits production numbers and profit margins but builds a product that the Ownership is proud of! This is not a corporate greed company and as long as guys like us can continue to expose their handcrafted products to the unknowing masses their guitars should have a long tenure!

Heritage will never do the volume of Gibson, but what they do, they do better. Â Being in a Gibson van sounds frightening to me. I picture being pulled in, offered a refreshing beverage and a woman reaching a Midnight Manhattan Les Paul Custom to me, seductively whispering, "Just try it. Just a little strum, a little bend. You know you want to." And just as I reach for it her thumb sweeps across the strings, the e-tune-driven tuning machines ratchet and whir, and I bolt, running from the van, stumbling over lounging bluesmen, one of whom whispers in a gravelly voice, "Get away, son. Get away while you can." Â Â All right, so that added nothing to the thread, but I'm a dork. Anyway, md54, if you're anywhere Kalamazoo you can probably stop by the factory and ask them if they're still there. From what I understand you should bring them doughnuts if you do.
2bornot2bop Posted November 6, 2014 Posted November 6, 2014 Coming new to archtops not long ago, I've never understood the hate...I occasionally see it raise it's head on the jazz forum. Whatever.
Dick Seacup Posted November 6, 2014 Posted November 6, 2014 Based on the thread title I was expecting a link to the K'zoo Gazette and a report that Fish & Wildlife had nailed them for starting deer season early or something.

hinesarchtop Posted November 6, 2014 Posted November 6, 2014 While Gibson makes some nice guitars, the Heritage instruments are more closely related to what Gibson was doing when they were doing things right. I'm speaking specifically about their acoustic archtops. The name "Heritage" says it all. I hope they will be around for a long time. Excuse me while I go kiss my guitars.
skydog52 Posted November 6, 2014 Posted November 6, 2014 Hmmmmm. I just talked to Bill Paige about a custom custom. Marv is thinking about deer hunting a lot lately but so is half of Michigan with opening day 9 days away! This thread is as silly as this video
ledzef Posted November 6, 2014 Posted November 6, 2014 This thread is like the headstock thread. It comes around once a year and usually incites a riot.
MuDBoNe Posted November 6, 2014 Posted November 6, 2014 I was there yesterday, talked with Ren, Bill and Marv. They are doing just fine with lots of work. Great place to go visit too.
