Redsand Posted November 19, 2014 Posted November 19, 2014 I've got a bit of a head scratcher here with my amp that I could some assistance with before dumping it off to the amp man. The amp recently cut out completely during a rehearsal and is now only functional in a limited capacity if I bypass the preamp section and plug in thru the "power amp in" input......by limited I mean I get a fairly loud signal coming thru but only have the ability to control the presence and the reverb. No volume/EQ control. I originally suspected one of the (3) pre-amp tubes might need to be replaced but have since verified that all (3) 12AX7-R tubes are functioning perfectly. Any tips or irresponsible speculation would be appreciated.
Billgelder Posted November 19, 2014 Posted November 19, 2014 Hey Matt, Um I mean Redsand. I don't know if this will help, but I had a very similar problem with my Fender Hot Rod Deluxe. It turned out to be the input jacks were shorting out. If you plug in a guitar and wiggle the end of the cord that is plugged into the amp it might start working. I did end up taking it to my amp guy who fix it for $65.

rockabilly69 Posted November 19, 2014 Posted November 19, 2014 Hey Bill it is ridiculously hard to read your text on my phone screen, just thought you should know. As for the hot Rod deluxe input jacks that is a very common problem.
NoSnowBlower Posted November 20, 2014 Posted November 20, 2014 Help?? OK... Ditch that thing. Get a Metro GPM 45 combo. I'll tell George to expect your call.

NoSnowBlower Posted November 20, 2014 Posted November 20, 2014 "you don't remember that amp? I've had it forever." That's how I tell my wife
schundog Posted November 20, 2014 Posted November 20, 2014 The input jacks on the Hot Rod Series were all plastic, including the Blues Juniors. Dump 'em for switchcraft or whatever, and be done. One of the "mods" I had BillM do to my Blues Junior. Good luck!
peterbright Posted November 20, 2014 Posted November 20, 2014 And also check to make certain that all of the ribbon cables are seated fully.
yuominae Posted November 20, 2014 Posted November 20, 2014 "you don't remember that amp? I've had it forever." That's how I tell my wife I do that with my guitars. It sort of works as long as I keep the colours similar
peterbright Posted November 20, 2014 Posted November 20, 2014 Sell half the cases and put half in cases.
