MartyGrass Posted November 21, 2014 Posted November 21, 2014 This guitar has been around HOC for a while. 2BorNot2Bop, JackBaruth, and GuitarBean have all had this one in the last few years. I preceeded them by getting it from a friend in NY who gigged with it some. It was inspired by the Chinery collection of big archtops. Check them out here. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uadXz7Nsmqk This Heritage was made in 1998. It's a stock Super Eagle with the 7 layer neck binding that was normal back then. It has Schaller PAFs. It's a looker and a player. Not everyone goes for this finish. But I can attest that always brings a smile.
Keith7940236 Posted November 21, 2014 Posted November 21, 2014 Very cool guitar, congratulations on the return of the prodigal son!!!
RhoadsScholar Posted November 21, 2014 Posted November 21, 2014 I love that guitar (can I be the first to call DIBS)..... That is super. Nice score Mark.
2bornot2bop Posted November 21, 2014 Posted November 21, 2014 Actually, it was I who sold it to Peter. Love that guitar. Great SE with a shading to match!
hinesarchtop Posted November 21, 2014 Posted November 21, 2014 I love that guitar (can I be the first to call DIBS)..... That is super. Nice score Mark. I might have to challenge you for dibs. Maybe a rousing round of twister (with clothes) I've always thought that guitar was bluetiful!
Gitfiddler Posted November 21, 2014 Posted November 21, 2014 I too love that big blue lady. Which color best represents her in those photos? Some appear to be blueish green/aqua, and others a more deep true blue.
Gitfiddler Posted November 21, 2014 Posted November 21, 2014 This is how it looks in person. Great, I was hoping that shade was true to your instrument. Heritage's blue is very close to those in the Chinery collection. I have the book, but never saw the video. Thanks! Play it in good health.
Guitarbean Posted November 22, 2014 Posted November 22, 2014 I'm glad I had the opportunity to play Big Blue. Truly beautiful to look at and play. Very responsive to the strings one uses and goes well with all the ones I tried. My house feels strangely empty now.
MartyGrass Posted November 22, 2014 Author Posted November 22, 2014 2B is right. My buddy bought the SE from 2B via eBay. I'm not sure where 2B found this one. The deep blue finish will lighten over time and will develop some yellowing. All finishes change over time except maybe black and natural. The SE plays very well. It sounds great and there's no reason to change the pups.
barrymclark Posted November 22, 2014 Posted November 22, 2014 ...and one day I hope to dig up a 1996 SE half as sweet as this.
2bornot2bop Posted November 22, 2014 Posted November 22, 2014 No way, I'd not change a thing on Ms. Rhapsody In Blue! I acquired her from the original NY owner. Never thought I'd sell her....but we all know how that story goes! fun guitar to photograph...she's a Chameleon, taking on many different shades depending upon the lighting.
RhoadsScholar Posted November 22, 2014 Posted November 22, 2014 To have those 3 guitars in the stable at one time. WOW
2bornot2bop Posted November 22, 2014 Posted November 22, 2014 To have those 3 guitars in the stable at one time. WOW Mark and PeterBright can surely relate to an SE 3'some. I've only 2 SE's at the moment...a different pair obviously than the above.
