TheAnalFinn Posted November 21, 2014 Posted November 21, 2014 My nephew is about to order either a Skolnick H 150, an H 150 or an H 157 from Wolf's but doesn't know which to choose. Are there any relative advantages or disadvantages to these models?
davesultra Posted November 21, 2014 Posted November 21, 2014 Not sure they're still making the "Skolnick" as he's no longer an endorsee. A 150 will be most like a Les P#ul Standard. A 157 more like a Les P#ul Custom. So I suppose If you're familiar with the differences in those, that should give you a good idea of what to expect. Both are excellent guitars BTW.

Well, it is still on the Heritage website. But that might not mean too much.
brentrocks Posted November 21, 2014 Posted November 21, 2014 There is now way they will build a Skolnick....their contract with Alex is long expired
mars_hall Posted November 22, 2014 Posted November 22, 2014 They can build to the Skolnick spec, heavy, without the logo I would opt for the 157 built to the Skolnick spec\
pro-fusion Posted November 22, 2014 Posted November 22, 2014 Skolnick's personal guitars are/were something on the order of 13 lbs., so you might want to consider that before ordering one to his specifications. My 157 is a little over 10 lbs., and while it is a raging hard rock/heavy metal beast because of the weight, it's not the most comfortable guitar I've ever played. It mostly comes out when I need the heavy artillery for something.
TheAnalFinn Posted November 23, 2014 Author Posted November 23, 2014 I'm afraid I've never heard of Skolick. (He must be good to have gotten and endorsement though.) I was simply going from the Heritage website. My nephew ordered a H157 from Wolfe's. I'm sure it will be beautiful. We have agreed that which ever of us dies first, the survivor will inherit the deceased's guitars. I've got a few years on him, but with a little luck....
JMick Posted November 23, 2014 Posted November 23, 2014 Nephew here. With no shortage of inspiration from this forum, I have requested from the folks in Kalamazoo an H157 in dark vintage wine burst with chrome hardware and a pair of 59s. She'll arrive in the next few months and I'll be sure to post a picture or two. If I disappear mysteriously between then and now, please refer the authorities to the above post. Now all I need to do is pick out an amplifier and figure out what Freddie King ate for breakfast every day...
Steiner Posted November 23, 2014 Posted November 23, 2014 The anal Finn ? Finn must be the bloodhound in his avatar, or as Redsand suggests, the back side of a great white. JMick - What you have coming sounds like an awesome guitar. Many of the folks here have ordered their custom, dream guitar and been very pleased since. It was wise of you to let your Uncle chime in just in case your deal with him goes south. Kudos... Welcome to the two of you! I look forward to hearing about your experience with your dream guitar. Resistance is futile; you will be assimilated.
TheAnalFinn Posted November 23, 2014 Author Posted November 23, 2014 A word about my forum name- My other hobby is fly fishing and I choose that name on a flyfishing forum because it struck me as funny. As trout have an anal fin, in the context of a fishing forum, the play on words is immediately apparent. Rather than commit a new fake name to memory, I used that name here without giving it any thought. In retrospect, I wish I had given it some thought, because it seems I have inadvertently introduced myself as a Scandanavian pervert.

I know several Scandinavian perverts and they have all been really nice. Not really, but you seem cool. =)

Steiner Posted November 24, 2014 Posted November 24, 2014 A Scandinavian pervert??? Next thing you know, we'll be bombarded with Swedish porn!
