Gitfiddler Posted December 2, 2014 Posted December 2, 2014 I like the tilt back amp stands. I can point the amp right at my head so I can hear myself without blasting the audience. Same here. I use the type pictured and really dig it. Plus it collapses/folds nicely for easy transport..
JackBaruth Posted December 3, 2014 Posted December 3, 2014 I have my Gibson Skylark on this: http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/RS7705?adpos=1o5&creative=55281441601&device=c&matchtype=&network=g&gclid=CjwKEAiA4_WjBRCNgf7A_KeE9jwSJADtegYdjvcsE0m8ez1fwmXZrBLNWOV6x0VsjyWQElBEdcYTyBoCZpPw_wcB Great for a small amp like the Skylark, Champ, or any of the modern boutique Champ descendants.
RJLII Posted December 3, 2014 Posted December 3, 2014 My stable is modest, but covers all the sounds I need. All are 1X12 combos. Carr Rambler Victoria Ivy League (5F10 Fender Harvard Circuit) ThroBak Classic Combo (1974X Marshall Circuit) And a good amp stand I got at Farrows Music in Kalamazoo about 25 years ago
DetroitBlues Posted December 3, 2014 Author Posted December 3, 2014 My only issue with amp stands is I feel there is a bit of bass/bottom end loss when elevated off the floor. Or is it just my imagination?
Redsand Posted December 3, 2014 Posted December 3, 2014 ThroBak Classic Combo (1974X Marshall Circuit) Very nice. I really like the idea of bringing on either the Throbak 1x12 or the Metropoulos GPM 45 2x12.
CJTopes Posted December 3, 2014 Posted December 3, 2014 My only issue with amp stands is I feel there is a bit of bass/bottom end loss when elevated off the floor. Or is it just my imagination? I would agree with that. What I do, (if I'm using a head/cab set up) is to put the cab on the floor and tilt it back so the stand will support it and then put the head on the stand itself.. Cant do that if I'm using a combo...
TalismanRich Posted December 4, 2014 Posted December 4, 2014 My only issue with amp stands is I feel there is a bit of bass/bottom end loss when elevated off the floor. Or is it just my imagination? Yes, you'll lose some bottom end with it off the floor, but that can usually be compensated for with a slight turn of the bass knob. The advantage is that the bass is crisper, better controlled and not boomy. Plus, you actually can hear what you are playing. You will NOT hear what your rig sounds like when its firing at your kneecaps.

That will create a bass reflex and you won't have to turn the bass knob.

randy2270 Posted December 4, 2014 Posted December 4, 2014 As far as amp stands go, I really like the concept but I heard that Herb Ellis used to shove an ashtray underneath to get the lift. Can't argue with the master. Current stock: Polytone teeny brute, Strawberry Blonde, Cube 30, and the Epiphone Regent 30 which sounds great with the Emporer II and crappy with everything else, - sounds about right. I got my eye on a Quilter 8, maybe a JazzKat, and an AER 40 or 60.

Blunote Posted December 4, 2014 Posted December 4, 2014 If we're going to have an amp brag, I may as well jump in too. Chicago Blues Box Kingston 18 purchased from Brent is a great grab'n go. It has some really sweet modern Fender tones and takes pedals well KBP 810 Reverb Deluxe purchased from DB a few years back. Blackface DR all the way. Great cleans, and coupled with my Alex Attenuator, provides some great distorted tones at easy listening volume levels Little Lanilei purchased from Mahaffay Amplification. Mostly Marshall without much headroom. 1/2 watt tube output into solid state 3rd stage on board amp allowing clean or distorted tones from .5 watt to 33 watts. Can play at bedroom levels or drive a 4X4 at on-stage volume. Schertler Jam150 Acoustic Amp provides accurate amplification up to 150 SS watts with onboard reverb and delay across 4 channels with phantom power for mic. Guytron GT100 FV. Definitely not grab n go. Basically, three onboard amps with the third being a final power stage for the other two. Like the Mahaffay amp, it can model the tone you want in either of two channels and scale up the tone using the final EL-34 power section. Additional focus and voicing switches allow the amp to assume any of 16 different personalities. If you don't mind carrying it, this thing will handle small rooms, or hold it's own with any plexi. Marshall AS50R- Acoustic amp offered locally for sale. My amplifier needs are pretty much met. If anything, I should think about parting with either the KBP810 RD or the CBB Kingston as they are quite similar.he Marshall AS50R is sold. Update: The Marshall AS50R is sold. One thing about guitars and amps; if you buy them, use them for years and still sell them for what you paid. There aren't too many products you can say that about.
