peterbright Posted November 30, 2014 Posted November 30, 2014 Changed the strings on my acoustic Super Eagle tonight and noticed a significant increase in volume going from flat wounds to phosphor bronze (medium) strings. They do sound a little much more metallic even using a really heavy pick. I'll see how I like them after they are broken in.
Frank67 Posted November 30, 2014 Posted November 30, 2014 Keep us posted! Maybe also a soundclip? PB strings on an acoustuc SE is a sound that definitely interests me! I think that PB strings sound great. Too bad they don't work with magnetic pickups. Ken Parker uses PB strings on his 30K$+ archtops .. And likely for a good reason!
Ned Posted November 30, 2014 Posted November 30, 2014 I bet they stay. What gauge? I use TI Spectrum (pb) 12s on the acoustic 575. They have a grat voice and seem to last forever.
peterbright Posted November 30, 2014 Author Posted November 30, 2014 They are Martin SP 4200's (13-56). It had TI Jazz Swings same gauge
Ned Posted November 30, 2014 Posted November 30, 2014 Please let the board know how they settle in. The Spectrums I use are round wound (as I'm sure you know, but this is a topic that will be found by a lucky person with a new acoustic archtop).
peterbright Posted December 1, 2014 Author Posted December 1, 2014 I have a set of Spectrums somewhere. If the Martins don't work out, I may try them.
rockabilly69 Posted December 1, 2014 Posted December 1, 2014 They are Martin SP 4200's (13-56). That's all I use on my acoustics that I gig with although I use the lights because of how much I gig, the mediums tear up my hands! They are ridiculously consistent.
peterbright Posted December 1, 2014 Author Posted December 1, 2014 Played her again tonight and about half of the metallic harshness that I noticed with the string change was gone and volume is still increasing. I lowered the bridge a bit but it did not seem to have much of an effect on the sound. It was easier to play.
