ThroBak Posted December 3, 2014 Posted December 3, 2014 I got a call yesterday from the great guitar player Wil Crosby about ordering some ThroBak pickups. Wil is touring with Aretha Franklin right now and is using his Heritage 535 with Varitone on stage. Wil has some amazing credits, guitar player for Aretha, Mavis Staples and many more... When a guy like Wil Crosby chooses a Heritage you know the guitar can deliver! Here is a clip of Wil taking a solo with Aretha Franklin. Solo at 1:15 min. mark.
Redsand Posted December 3, 2014 Posted December 3, 2014 Heritage H-535 + Throbaks + Wil Crosby = Soul Warmth
Steiner Posted December 3, 2014 Posted December 3, 2014 That sound even turned the head of the queen of soul herself! I still need a set of Throbaks for the #1 575 MH. Come on Santa! Daddy needs a new set of humbuckers!!!
Gitfiddler Posted December 3, 2014 Posted December 3, 2014 Very cool endorsement! May I ask which Throbak p'ups he ordered?
fxdx99 Posted December 3, 2014 Posted December 3, 2014 Well, how cool is that!?! Thanks for the share, Jon.
davesultra Posted December 3, 2014 Posted December 3, 2014 Great sounds! I just ordered my first set of Throbaks last week. I went with the ones modeled after the set that are in the "Taylor/Richards burst". Can't wait to give 'em a whirl!
blueox Posted December 4, 2014 Posted December 4, 2014 Thanks for the heads-up! Nice to see a soul/blues workout with a Heritage on stage in the limelight. What?! A Varitone on an H-535?!
gpuma Posted December 4, 2014 Posted December 4, 2014 That just made my day. Thank you for posting it
yoslate Posted December 4, 2014 Posted December 4, 2014 Testify! That was pretty delicious, indeed. And as somebody who uses those p'ups regularly, come to depend on them, actually, I'm here to say, they do get you down the ramp and into traffic just fine! Thanks for that post, Jon. 'Retha is just something else! And, as always, the handbag under the piano, probably full of cash....
pegleg32 Posted December 4, 2014 Posted December 4, 2014 Very cool. Sure curious about the Varitone - isn't that a Gibby thing?
Gianluca Posted December 4, 2014 Posted December 4, 2014 oh yes, how to give even more love to my H535 thanks for sharing Throbak
ThroBak Posted December 5, 2014 Author Posted December 5, 2014 Very cool endorsement! May I ask which Throbak p'ups he ordered? The pickups in this clip are Seth Lovers which sound great obviously but Wil wants to switch them to ThroBaks. He is really interested it he PG-102 set but I said if wants a similar flavor to the the Seth Lovers the SLE-101 set is a great choice also. He called again today, he is having a real hard time deciding, he loves the tone of both sets. I guess one solution would be buy another H535 and get both sets! Oh yeah, Wil had the Varitone added after he got the guitar, it did not come that way from Heritage. But Wil absolutely loves his H535.

I too love the Seths in my 535, but am thinking about swapping out the HRW's in my 555 to a set of SLE-101. I've read great reviews about 101's...but I trust YOUR comments! That is on my must buy list for 2015.
Spectrum13 Posted December 5, 2014 Posted December 5, 2014 Tasty indeed. Jon's pups were factory installed on my last two heritage builds. Nothing wrong with the Seth's but everything is right with the Throbaks
