koula901 Posted January 26, 2015 Posted January 26, 2015 Quick Wiki Search shows in the 70's there was a Classic Series called the "Vintage Series" being a 2x12, 50 Watt combo. Perhaps it was that? Vintage and Valveking are easy to mix up the names 30+ years later. It might have been the classic. Mine had 2 channels and a footswitch. It was a great amp and far more power than I ever needed. I never put that up anywhere past 2 or 3.
Hfan Posted January 29, 2015 Posted January 29, 2015 Rolling off the bass cleans up the mids where guitar tone IMNSHO lives. Guitars sustain much better with an amp when they aren't battling woofy mids! That said, the HRD and Blues Deluxe models had reliability issues, especially with the jacks being hard mounted to the circuit boards! My Blues Jr had that jack set up too. Installed one of Bill M's mods that replaced it. BTY, last I heard Bill M is pretty sick, hope he's ok. DB, there is a recent thread in the main section of Strat Talk on the Blues Deluxe..lots of guys there love em. Found it http://www.strat-talk.com/forum/stratocaster-discussion-forum/329954-blues-deluxe.html
Hfan Posted January 29, 2015 Posted January 29, 2015 Come to the Muster in March and play a few Boogie's. That should put this to rest. There will be a 5:25 1x10 DC2 1x12 a Mark V MAYBE a 5:50 1x12 FWIW...Larry Carlton, a man who seeks Dumble tone when playing, when travelling overseas and doing one-off gigs, always specs a Blues Deluxe and uses a pedal. 22 watt combo with EQ!!! https://indianapolis.craigslist.org/msg/4804198538.html same as what RB69 and I have, but in a 50 watt version... https://indianapolis.craigslist.org/msg/4862806876.html Couldn't you guys move the muster a thousand miles east?? Assuming that's not the Atlantic Ocean.. I miss all the fun.

DetroitBlues Posted March 4, 2015 Author Posted March 4, 2015 I spent a little time going back and fourth with the Marshall DSL and my Peavey Valveking MH. I was liking the MH's clean and overdrive tones much better than Marshalls, giving me a touch of regret for spending the money on the Marshall. Last night I thought about it and decided to look at the back of the Marshall. I saw that I had it in Triode instead of Pentode. I switched the Marshall over to Pentode and low and behold, the "Marshall" sound I like came back. So word of advice to anyone looking into Marshall DSL40C, the amp has a Master Volume, so Triode mode just kills the tone, not the volume... Don't use it. Keep it wide open and adjust Master Volume to taste.
