The seller says it's a Heritage Groove Master. I don't remember ever seeing one on here... Anybody know what those are? Are they a special model?

Simpler and cheaper. Like an ES-175.

yuominae Posted December 6, 2014 Author Posted December 6, 2014 Wow, thanks guys. Looks like I was too lazy to google it
ingeneri Posted December 7, 2014 Posted December 7, 2014 Laminated top version of the KB Signature. Simpler and cheaper. Like an ES-175. Not even close. The Super KB has a carved 18" spruce top and carved maple back and sides with a Florentine cutaway, maple neck, a 25.5" scale ebony fingerboard, floating bridge, and a fingers tailpiece. The KB Groovemaster has a 16" laminated maple top, back and sides with a Venetian cutaway, mahogany neck, a 24.75" rosewood fingerboard, floating center block, mounted TOM bridge, and regular bail tailpiece. A Groovemaster is much closer to a humbuckers equipped 525 than a Super KB.

jimsoloway Posted December 7, 2014 Posted December 7, 2014 Given the body thickness a Not even close. A Groovemaster is much closer to a humbuckers equipped 525 than a Super KB. Given the body thickness and where the neck meets the body isn't it closer to the 575? The 525 is thinner an the neck meets the body at the 15th fret.
ingeneri Posted December 8, 2014 Posted December 8, 2014 Jim, I've owned a Groovemaster, a 575, and a 525. I find the two laminates sound much more alike (granted my Groovemaster had Phat Cat pickups). I venture that the laminate maple top and floating center block havevmuch more of an effect on the sound than the depth or location of the neck joint. I imagine my 525 would sound even more like the Groovemaster if it also had the mounted bridge instead of a floating wooden bridge. But you're the builder. That said, I think the popularity of the 525 has hurt the Groovemaster, making it an obscure also ran despite the Kenny Burrell endorsement. Obviously, anyone who knows anything about Burrell know the Groovemaster is nothing like his Super 400, L5, or D'angelico. Burrell's 50's 175 was what I was going for when I bought the Groovemaster with Phat Cats, modded a 575 with p90s, and then traded that guitar in for the 525. Personally, the 525 comes closest despite the different to the 175.
jimsoloway Posted December 8, 2014 Posted December 8, 2014 Tonally I'm sure you're right. I was thinking more I terms of feel and playing position. My brain always tends to go there first.

I was under the impression it was a simpler and cheaper take on the KB Signature, like an ES-175, when in fact it's clearly it's like a 525, which is, um, kind of like a Heritage 575, which is kind of like an ES-175, except the ES-175 sometimes has humbuckers I think, like the KB Groovemaster. I hope nobody ran right out and bought a Groovemaster thinking it was exactly like a KB Sig only with a laminated top. If you did, contact me privately and I'll try to help you get your money back. IS EVERYBODY OKAY DID ANYBODY BUY A GROOVEMASTER ARE WE ALL FEELING CALM NOW
Vanschoyck Posted December 8, 2014 Posted December 8, 2014 ARE WE ALL FEELING CALM NOW I feel OK. I didn't sleep all that well last night but other than that I think I'll make it.

JackBaruth Posted December 8, 2014 Posted December 8, 2014 alpha males are hilarious. Sounds like someone wants a laminated top.

yuominae Posted December 8, 2014 Author Posted December 8, 2014 Hmmm, I'm starting to wonder if I didn't make a mistake by asking this... Got lots of info on the KB now, thanks guys

jimsoloway Posted December 9, 2014 Posted December 9, 2014 For what it's worth, I know exactly what a Groove Master is and I often think I'd like to own one. It's certainly a lot more attractive to me than an ES175.
