Dead Patriot

They've got mixed reviews, and are expensive. But I might have to. Crap!

i know Val & have used his service over the years. can't speak to any negative review, but i've had a couple incidents like this and one he diagnosed and fixed in less than a minute - no charge. the other was the infamous screen grid resistor and that took <1 hr so just charged me the diagnostic bench charge (IIRC $45 at the time) plus parts. guaranteed work.

i know a couple guys i've played with (BF Pro Reverb & Carvin PB400 bass amp) who were not completely happy with the results, but neither of them went back to invoke the warranty. IMHO they shoulda. they both can be a little impatient and not every problem can be fixed with one stop. anyway, i continue to recommend him.

@Guitarbean & RJSanders: Thank you both for the King Amplification recommendations. Yelp can scare folks off if too many negative reviews. However, I respect HOC reviews much more! :icon_salut:

And yes, a call to Paul C. is in the plan as well. But all must wait until after the holidays.

Patriot is in the amp hospital.

Bruce at East Bay Audio Repair in Berkeley had great reviews and is local and reasonably priced. I gave him Paul Cochrane's number in case he runs into a problem.

Fingers crossed...I love that amp!

ohhh.. you are so BAD!!!!! :evil4:

UPDATE: I just picked up the Patriot from the shop (Not Brady  ). After hours on the tech's bench set to 'Standby', then later set 'On'...Nothing was wrong with it! He could not replicate its mysterious fuse blowing and shut down issue. He theorized that it could be something to do with my home electrical connections...likely a defective power strip...maybe. We both shrugged our shoulders at this strange situation. I paid him for his time to diagnose and test and probe and left with the amp.

After getting it home and up the stairs (Oh my back!!), I tried plugging it into the power strip. Standby...then lights off!! I quickly unplugged it from the strip, and plugged it directly into the wall socket. NO PROBLEMS! WTF! Later today I'll stop by Frys Electronics and pick up a high quality surge protector for my music room. Lesson learned.

And yes, the Heritage Patriot sounded as glorious as ever. First I plugged in my H-157 (Amazing!!), then the H-525 Custom (Whoa Baby!!). Spent the evening getting re-acquainted with this wonderful amp.

And I was going to offer you $300 for that POS amp as-is. Just waiting for more bad new from you before swooping in.

I'm happy for you anyway. I suppose.

Over Christmas, we had an electrical issue with our lights in the basement and the bedrooms. Turns out a faulty power strip was pushing AC power back through the house so both the hot and the return were hot. Because its AC current, it basically cancelled its self out and caused a tons of problem. Took hours to finally determine it was a power strip. (Pulled every outlet to test, checked every wire and traced each back to the circuit breaker panel!)
