Interesting thread..a little bit of everything ha ha. Congrats to Michael..very nice 535.

And thanks to Daniel for the good info. I've considered modding a few LP types to Faber ABRs and tail pieces..studs too I guess. Really haven't done proper research yet.

Saw this picture a few posts ago, the Faber stud appears longer than the stock one..would you have to drill out the hole some?

I have done this mod on all my TOM guitars and most of the time the original studs are deep enough. I just put a screw (or nail) in the hole to see if it was deep enough for the Faber stud. On a couple guitars I had to use a drill to make it slightly deeper to accept the depth of the Faber studs. It is really easy to do, and trust me, if I can do it anyone can.

Looking at the picture above though, it seems once you put the Faber in there, there is no going back. Other studs are easy to remove with a screw and a post. That looks like a darn near permenant install.

Well, trust me, you will never want to remove them!!!! But I believe Larry Corsa says they are removible. I am so glad I listened to Daniel and upgraded all my guitars to Faber Locking Abr1s

its a pricey upgrade. Maybe if I start playing out again or on a regular basis, perhaps I'll upgrade what I have. At the moment, I can't justify it. Still, the concept is great. I assume by the stud and the threaded post being a single piece, it allows the vibration of the strings to resonate better?

I guess pricey is a matter of opinion for quality.

I just bought the Faber Master Kit for my Historic 61 SG. I am super pumped I saw this thread. I couldn't remember what it was. And yea, pricey is relative to every person. In my opinion, it's worth it. Looks like top quality stuff.

I would think they are removable, but like Kuz says here, why would I want to? But if I had to, I would just put a socket wrench socket over the threaded post end, so the post is sticking through the 1/4" square hole, and screw a #6 nut onto the exposed thread and turn a few times using a small wrench, the insert should pop right out. Of course I would put something soft between the socket and top of the guitar to protect it! I'm sure there's better ways to do it, I just thought that up in a few seconds.
