proxmax Posted December 10, 2014 Posted December 10, 2014 now i'm home. after a long search for the right pup i tested the 5909s that i already knew from my PRS McRosie Goldtop with solid rosewood neck. the heritage has a ebony fretboard and sounds due to this a bit brighter than normal. now i have the punch and low end i've been looking for but still very tight with crying mids and singing trebs - a very meaty and vintage orientated tone with a lot of balls. i tested so many pups but never was fully satisfied. anyone else tried those awesome pickups?
HANGAR18 Posted December 10, 2014 Posted December 10, 2014 I've got some 59/09's, I like them but I'm leaving them in the PRS guitar they came in. What are you going to do with the McRosie?

I tried some PRS gtrs/pickups not long ago, no idea what they were but one of them had a solid rosewood neck too they sounded great
proxmax Posted December 10, 2014 Author Posted December 10, 2014 I've got some 59/09's, I like them but I'm leaving them in the PRS guitar they came in. What are you going to do with the McRosie? that was a spare set in the heritage. the mcrosie stays with 5909s. both guitars still sound totally different. i also have a set 57/08s left...
HANGAR18 Posted December 10, 2014 Posted December 10, 2014 that was a spare set in the heritage. the mcrosie stays with 5909s. both guitars still sound totally different. i also have a set 57/08s left... The 59/09s are very popular among those who like the traditional Les Paul design and the 57/08's are even more popular still. I've got a "McRosie BLE" not sure what pickups it has in it. Maybe just McCarty pickups. My Black/Gold Burst Custom 24 has the 59/09's and my Swamp Ash Studio has one 57/08 regular and two 57/08 Narrowfield pickups. I'll show you a picture but don't tell anyone I own so many PRS guitars.
HANGAR18 Posted December 10, 2014 Posted December 10, 2014 Oh, BTW... If anyone wants to buy a set of PRS 59/09 pickups and install them into your Heritage guitar, you can buy them direct from PRS for about $400.00. Click this... http://www.prsaccessories.com/collections/pickups/products/59-09-treble-pickup Paul Reed Smith himself says that the wire which go into these pickups (and the 57/08's) is made from the same actual wire making machine that made the wire for the original PAF pickups that are highly sought after today and that he has the exclusive rights to all the wire made by that machine. (Not the original winder machine but the machine that made the actual wire itself.) There is a video out there somewhere of him discussing this subject.
squawken Posted December 10, 2014 Posted December 10, 2014 Have them in my PRS Dirty 100. Perfect combination
proxmax Posted December 10, 2014 Author Posted December 10, 2014 yes, those 5909s are to buy and are called squabbins. to me they sound differemt to the old covered versions that are discontinued.

Guitarbean Posted December 10, 2014 Posted December 10, 2014 This tread is giving me PRS swamp ash special GAS. I used to have an NFS with narrowfields that was absolutely wonderful but I got a great trade offer. Now I'm wanting something similar again.

Even though I never really got with my own SAS which I owned for 7yrs I still get the occasional pang of Gas for a cu22 or McCarty or something similar. Wont be swamp ash but mahogany and maple next time if there is a next time.
