Blinging out the black beauty

I haven't been around much lately, because of work and family, so I'll start the thread by saying that I hope you're all well!

In between work and family I did find a little bit of time though to bling out my 157.

You might remember this beast which came to me from Brent via the brokerage of MattJayWorker.

Well, here is what it looks like now:

I always wanted a black beauty, but never was really satisfied with the "spectre of the night" silver on black look...

Now what do you all think? Is there anything missing to make it even more gorgeous?

And should I get a five ply black Gibby pickguard for it?

IMHO, you need to put the Black speed knobs back on and she is PERFECT.

I might be in the minority, but I hate reflector knobs. I think they look cheap. All my Humbucker guitars have speed knobs, but that is just my preference.

But seriously other than the knobs you took a good looking guitar into one of the best looking opaque 150/157 I have ever seen.

you could do what i did to my GLP Classic and add GOLD pickup mounting rings... more bling...

Awesome guitar. I think that the silver on black works nice with 2 pickups, but with the triple pickup layout it was a bit much. The P90s are pretty killer looking. I agree with Kuz that the black speed knobs would be a great fit. Any way you go it's looking good!

I came really really close to by this from Matt. We couldn't agree to terms on price for local pickup. I think it should have gold hardware too. Thought it seemed odd that way it was... Congrats

Thanks Kuz.

I think you're right, the black speed knobs worked best. The reflectors are supposed to have gold foil, but it looks more like silver. I'd been wondering about witch hat knobs, but wasn't too sure, so... Speed knobs it is :)

Lol! That is super bling indeed :)

I was aiming for the same sort of look as the LE 157s, so I'll stop there with the bling.

Looks menacing! I love it,

Awesome comment! I'll call it "the bling menace" :)

Looks like Rio Grande Pups?? I will share some new acquisitions with you in the next few days! That are right up your alley!

No, they're Fat Goat P90s from Manlius Pickups. They sound really great :)

I'm looking forward to seeing your new stuff! You've always got the most amazing gear :)

I like it, I think an LP Pickguard would add a nice touch (especially with the black beauty theme). That turned out really nice.

Thanks Robert! I'm probably going to special order one as soon as I get time to make a template for it :)

Do you find you strike the middle pickup when you're playing?

I do when I play it after playing one the two pup guitars, but after a bit of getting used to it's not so much of a problem. Saying that I don't strum that hard. If I did I would definitely hit the middle pup a lot more.

We are still talking about guitars right?

That was my understanding... What did you think we were talking about?

that H157 does look great....agree on the speed knobs being a better match

Well, I tried black speed knobs the day Kuz suggested them and it looked too "modern" for my taste.

I have a surplus of top hat knobs. Put on some black ones and, hey, it looks perfect now. And the best is that top hat knobs will go great with the hold pointers I bought for it, but didn't put on because they didn't go well with the black reflectors :)

I like reflectors, but not those. The problem is that the inserts are all screwed up, they don't have the smooth finish that actually "reflect",

try these... http://www.philadelphialuthiertools.com/knobs/volume-and-tone-control-knobs/bell-hat-knobs-black-with-silver-reflector-us-set-of-4/

But I think these would look the most right on a black beauty... http://www.philadelphialuthiertools.com/knobs/volume-and-tone-control-knobs/black-bell-hat-knobs-4pk-for-gibson-guitars-with-us-fine-splines/

Love the new bling. I'd prefer gold Knurled nobs. (But thats what makes life interesting)

Nice job and have a rockin good time with your "Bling Menace"

Great suggestions! That's where I got the reflectors from and the black top hats are what I ended up putting on it.

And you are right, the black top hats look most righteous on it :)
