rstein Posted February 7, 2015 Posted February 7, 2015 I am looking to build my second guitar and I really want a tiger eye top on my H 150 but I get the vibe that may be hard to do. Does anybody have any thought or ideas that could help?

FredZepp Posted February 7, 2015 Posted February 7, 2015 There have been some similar to a tiger eye done before. It just needs more contrast perhaps... If you relayed the request in detail with lots of examples , they might do it...
Dick Seacup Posted February 7, 2015 Posted February 7, 2015 That middle one almost looks like curly redwood.
rstein Posted February 7, 2015 Author Posted February 7, 2015 What pickups are in the middle one? Are they white or cream? I like that look.
FredZepp Posted February 8, 2015 Posted February 8, 2015 What pickups are in the middle one? Are they white or cream? I like that look. I don't remember what they are.. but they are cream. I almost bought that one.. great top

DetroitBlues Posted February 9, 2015 Posted February 9, 2015 Ask Brent, I'm sure it was his at one point or another....
FredZepp Posted February 9, 2015 Posted February 9, 2015 Here's another... I was trying to find a pic of the 150 that MM (Guy) had at PSP that was refinished... that one has a really nice Tiger Eye/ Boneyard type finish... haven't found a pic of that one yet..
Gitfiddler Posted February 9, 2015 Posted February 9, 2015 Why not just go for the actual tiger eye finish!! (Sans the G-brand headstock of course.)

Fred that is my Burnt Amber Ultra 150.... the color is more brown and no where near a Tiger effect. The other guitar pictured colors appear to be Antique Amber. Heritage does not really have a Tiger finish, wish they did. Here is my Refin! I really like how the headstock turned out!
skydog52 Posted February 13, 2015 Posted February 13, 2015 Pictures of what you are looking for would help. Here is my latest.
hopkinwfg Posted February 22, 2015 Posted February 22, 2015 so it be possible to get heritage to do a build with the specific top you want with the necessary reference emailed out ?
tbonesullivan Posted February 24, 2015 Posted February 24, 2015 most of the "tiger eye" finishes I have seen involved some level of staining to enhance the difference between the different parts of the grain.
Gitfiddler Posted February 24, 2015 Posted February 24, 2015 most of the "tiger eye" finishes I have seen involved some level of staining to enhance the difference between the different parts of the grain. Very true. Carvin does a great job with their enhanced finishes. They really pop.
tbonesullivan Posted February 24, 2015 Posted February 24, 2015 There was that Boneyard Joe Perry LP artist edition some years back. That thing had a GREAT tiger eye finish. http://www2.gibson.com/Products/Electric-Guitars/Les-Paul/Gibson-Custom/Joe-Perry-Boneyard-Les-Paul.aspx

GREAT SHOT and love the finish, remind me of the Joe Perry Boneyard guitar
bigsbytp Posted February 25, 2015 Posted February 25, 2015 Wow. I will be downloading lots of these pics for screen saver eye candy...I just love saving my screen....and having people at work ask, "Is that yours?" . . . though I never claim anyone else's guitar to be my own...I am just a guy trying to save my screen..... When the boss (or spouse) is around, I say, "well I just have one." .....(did I say that?)

Does anybody have any thought or ideas that could help? I agree with the comment previously noted - just ask the factory what they can do. Send them a pic of what you are looking for....You or your favorite dealer can do that. I have been privileged to have a couple of guitars who others special ordered with all kinds of "first time" requests...and they did them. Go for it. you only live once - this time. Nothing like Tiger eyed, striped, etc wood.
koula901 Posted March 22, 2015 Posted March 22, 2015 Pictures of what you are looking for would help. Here is my latest. What model is this?
