Wow, nice (large) herd of amps. I notice no recent boutique types. I see Rivera era amps on CL on a regular basis.

I'm curious about other amp types but I fear the GAS. I'm just a home noodler now. Bought DB's 73 Traynor Studio Mate last summer and am enjoying that with the luch reverb. I like that EL84 vibe.

I also have a 73 blackfaced Twin (my high school amp), a KBP Reverb Deluxe with a few mods, a Lil Dawg 25W 5E3 (has an attenuating speaker thank goodness) and a Tweed Blues Jr that I did most of Bill M's mods to. BTY, anyone hear how Bill is doing health wise? He was pretty sick. Hope he's doing better.

Hey there, Hfan~These 3 are boutique enough for me. All are circa 2006. If I had found the Heritage amps years ago, I'd probably not have any most of the others. Heritage amps are that good!

And by the way...Your KBP is the very definition of boutique...hand made by a quality builder, and in very limited supply. And that Lil Dawg ain't no slouch either. Nice stuff! :icon_salut:

I'm in a classic country covers band, we play weekly at the same place. I enjoy taking turns with four "go to" amp heads, three are 50w d-clones and the fourth is my Harry Joyce. I also like to play a different guitar every week, usually I take two guitars. Enjoying the TC nova system pedal, Hilton volume pedal, and Area 51 wah. Cabs are choice of three Seismic Luke 2/12's, one with early JBL D123 custom guitar recones, one with early Altec 417 recones, and one with Altec 417c's. Recently I used the Frank-en-champ as part of a sorta-stereo rig driven by the right channel out from my Nova pedal, it was going through the loop of a D-clone, turned down the d-clone's master to a whisper, so the d-clone pre and fx choices went in to the little guy, it was monstrous sounding. Later on I turned down the little guy and brought up the master on the D-clone. Fun, fun, fun!

I really enjoy playing a boutique baritone guitar, I have two of 'em, obviously non-Heritage. The bari's are the band mates' faves as well. They are quite different in how they get their tones. One is a Joe Veilette, #20, the newest addition to the stable is a Joe Till TG250, one of a kind, which has the most powerful stage presence I've ever experienced with a stringed instrument. The Till is new to me since last week. Won't be my last Joe Till guitar either. The Veilette employs a pair of SC EMG's, plus piezo saddles with a blend knob, great build with a durable Poly finish. The nitro finished Till uses SD hum buckers, it gets the twang mainly by tone wood choices. Joe Till guitars are incredible GAS activators, look on Facebook, you'll see mine there.

Try as I may and try as I might I cannot get past the reality that no matter how many amps, pedals, processors, etc that I try (and they number in the hundereds).......nothing BUT nothing, does or ever will sound as good as a simple; guitar > cord > tube-amp > speaker cab set-up. It's just that simple!

And the set-up that finally brought me to that conclusion (after forty plus years of searching) is the one that so very few will ever get a chance to hear. I only STUMBLED across this set-up after trying EVEYTHING......from old 50's-60's amps all the way through the most forward thinking digital units of today (Axe-Fx etc).

The amp I speak of is the Fender Super Sonic 100, it was meant (IMO) to be Fenders FLAGSHIP amp. But as I understand, did a crash and burn because of QC. It's a huge shame because this is without a doubt the single finest amp I have EVER plugged into.

Virtually every guitarist the world knows and understands the sound of the most iconic amp in the world, the Fender 'TWIN'. And every 'blues' guitarist in the world knows the sound of the 'Fender Bassman' as played by guitarists.

Together in a single amp they make a most formidable amp, but when you add THE very best 'dirt' channel I've ever heard on an amp, AND throw in the slew of features incorporated into this amp that you will never find on other amps, this amp is IMO unmatched and unrivaled by any I've heard or seen.

H-535 > cord > SS 100 > speaker cab. No efx...what-so-ever.....well maybe just a touch of the Fenders GLORIOUS reverb every now and then.

So have I found contentment?

For the time being YES.

Although I personally disagree with your opinions on this amp, I love how much YOU love this amp. IMNSHO, I believe there is no best amp for everyone, and people really have to
try a lot of stuff until they hear the tone that resides in their brain and the one they feel in their gut. It sounds like you did just that, and have found your tone, and that to me is the point of the chase/search. Congrats! I love reading posts like this. Now rock on with your bad self, and post some clips if you can.

Mostly.

I play through my Tungsten Creama Wheat for medium gigs and my Fender SF Champ with 2x10s for small clubs. I do not use pedals any more and I mostly use the H150 P-90 GT and some use of the G brand ES347, now set up for slide.

I never use my Carr Slant 6v 2x12s anymore because it is too loud to crank into overdrive in the clean channel and way too HEAVY to tote around. I'm giving a big consideration to selling it. I also have fallen out of love with the reverb on it after playing for the last few years without any reverb at all. I hear it as too harsh. I could use a different tube to tame it probably.

I am gassing for the new Louis Electric Deltone but I would like to have a modified version with the ability to switch from 20 to 10 to 5 watts instead of 20 only. I have no idea if this is something he would do or not but I can dream. If I sold the Carr it would go a long way toward funding that amp. I also have some great pedals I would like to unload too that could help funding.

Moving to a simple set up changed my playing for the better and made me realize how much of an instrument amplifiers are.

Tungsten Crema Wheat cranked with a P90 H150, well that sounds GREAT.

I could use a tweak. I'm blessed with three amps that pretty much cover the spectrum: A Carr Rambler 1X12 for Blackface and more, a Victoria Ivy League 1X12 (5F10 Harvard) for tweed goodness, and the ThroBak 1X12 1974X Marshall clone for the British thing. I generally cycle the Carr and Victoria back and forth, but the ThroBak spends most of the time in the closet with the cover on. I gravitate to Blues/Jazz/Swing style playing and the ThroBak isn't as well suited to those genres. I've been thinking hard about divesting myself of the ThroBak and adding another flavor of tweed like a 5E3 Deluxe or similar.

I am considering getting some different P90s (I am saving up for Throbak p90s to replace my Lollar p90s) for both my GT150 p90 and 535 P90 guitars. Also a new pedal, possibly a Strymon Timeline delay (because you can preset a bunch of different delay types and length of delays into patches). I use delay in my praise band every song, and sometimes I need an "Edge" delay, or a long ambient delay, or sometimes just a quick repeat. With the Timeline I can just call up a patch on the fly vs bending down and adjusting the pedal's knobs for every song.

But for the big gear (guitars & amps) I have ZERO GAS or AAS.

I'm just too lazy to change my setup. Heck I've had one of my hamers half apart for the past two weeks because i'm too lazy to heat up the soldering iron.

Ive gotten so lazy I sometimes think about just buying a new guitar rather than changing pickups or even just re stringing the existing ones.
