Rock4Rob Posted April 7, 2015 Posted April 7, 2015 Hey Heritage friends, I’ve always wanted a Heritage and I finally pulled the trigger and bought one. I’m wondering if you Heritage experts out there can help me out and let me know what I’ve got? The serial number on this guitar reads B02303. From what I’ve read on the site here, I gather this is a 1985 January production model— the third one made. Did I get this right? What model is this guitar? From what I see I think it's a H-140. My Memphis luthier said it’s all original except for the tail piece. He's working on it now. Apparently who ever owned it during it’s life put a Bixby on it and when they pulled it off they added a newer tail. Other than that it’s all original (electronics, etc) with a few marks and dings here and there. It plays wonderfully, and sounds pretty ferocious. I’m glad to be part of one of the best made guitars out there and given the fact I was born in Michigan I feel I found a long lost brother. Cheers!
golferwave Posted April 7, 2015 Posted April 7, 2015 Welcome to the club!! Very nice H-140 and certainly a very early one. The 03 at the end of the serial number means it was the third one made on that day. Since Heritage starts in January of each year with 365 and works backwards it would appear that yours was made on December 8th. Great looking guitar! enjoy!
golferwave Posted April 7, 2015 Posted April 7, 2015 Guess I should add December of 1985. B was the prefix letter for 1985 and C for 1986 etc, up through 2009 which was Z. In 2010 they went to AA and then AB in 2011, AC in 2012.
Rock4Rob Posted April 7, 2015 Author Posted April 7, 2015 Thanks for the info on the H140 and the kind words about the guitar. December 8th 85'. Glad to know the month, day and year the guitar was made. I'm feeling like I stumbled upon a bit of Heritage history.
TalismanRich Posted April 7, 2015 Posted April 7, 2015 You've grabbed a nice one. H140s are outstanding guitars. Light and tossable, with a solid rockin' sound. Yes, the tailpiece is definitely different. Here's my D serial # H140. You can see the standard Schaller tailpiece. Once you get it set up to your liking, you'll really enjoy whipping on it!
FredZepp Posted April 7, 2015 Posted April 7, 2015 Oh yeah... a nice early Heritage. These have great quality wood and are crafted by the best. They are a fantastic buy on a fine quality Kalamazoo instrument. You made a great choice .. enjoy ! PS.. always a fun part of a new Heritage is checking the label .. in the control cavity if it has one ..
