darkphader Posted April 14, 2015 Posted April 14, 2015 Although usable the way the H-170 hangs from the strap is so different and feels a bit awkward, feels like it's falling away from your body. Has anyone tried moving the upper strap button on an H-170 from the back of the neck to the tip of the upper horn like Collings does with their 290 DC? Not sure how well it would work as the upper horn on the H-170 is shorter than that on a 290 DC but it may be a great improvement. However it's not something that can be undone without leaving a trace and so far I haven't come up with another way to test balance in that configuration.
Millennium Maestro Posted April 14, 2015 Posted April 14, 2015 I rather like the strap button location on a 170, same as a 535... I have a DC 137 that was ordered with the button on the upper horn.... Hate it! HATE IT! The 137 has a similar design and horn shape, it has a really funky position on the shoulder with that pin location.
davesultra Posted April 14, 2015 Posted April 14, 2015 I had 2, and currently have 1 H-170. Both are/were second generation 170s'. I'm usually super picky 'bout things like that. I was surprised how well they hang when on a strap. They do sit a little bit away from my mid section, just a little. But unlike an SG, the neck doesn't have that shift to the left.
big bob Posted April 15, 2015 Posted April 15, 2015 I had them put the strap button on my 170 on the horn. I like, like, like, it!
darkphader Posted April 19, 2015 Author Posted April 19, 2015 Thanks for the input. Although it did seem awkward at first, it felt just fine after some real time spent jamming standing up. Not really an issue at all.
schundog Posted April 19, 2015 Posted April 19, 2015 This is my 1988 H-170. I don't mind the strap button on the back, as most guitars I own have that. It DOES, however, for me anyway, make Strap Locks an absolute must. I was always paranoid about the guitar falling off the front pin until I put Schaller Strap Locks on them all. This guitar, from Brent's Emporium, came this way.
