kakerlak Posted April 16, 2015 Posted April 16, 2015 I confess to the (I'm sure familiar) sickness that is obsessive internet window shopping the last couple years. Please tell me if my eyes are deceiving me... I keep seeing stop tailpieces that look unusually close to the bridges. I also swear I've seen a lot of bridges with the saddles maxed out at the end of their adjustment on the lower strings. To the eye, it looks like the bridge should be angled farther back on the bass side. Without having the guitar in hand, I'd tend to worry that the strings would fret sharp if the saddles on the lowest strings are bottomed out against the back of the bridge. So, are my eyes playing tricks? Is it an issue with retooling after the switch from Schaller roller bridges and tailpieces? I have no real hands-on experience with Heritage instruments, but have long admired them from afar.
kakerlak Posted April 16, 2015 Author Posted April 16, 2015 Sorry, hope I didn't come off too cynical -- I have been lusting after what sure look to be finely made instruments with an obviously fanatical following!

uniqlo Posted April 16, 2015 Posted April 16, 2015 Compare bridges and saddles for yourself. My Gibson 1960 reissue in front of number 2 and number 3... My Gibson 1957 Reissue... interesting to see how differently the stoptail and bridge are positioned with the real gibson
t0aj15 Posted April 16, 2015 Posted April 16, 2015 interesting to see how differently the stoptail and bridge are positioned with the real gibson The question is, which is the 'REAL' Gibson, the one with the Gibson name or the one's made by the guys who made the 'REAL' Gibson's when they were real and not just Nashville knock-offs. IMO the 'REAL' ones are still made in Kalamazoo. But yes there is an obvious difference, I'd also like to know why.
FredZepp Posted April 17, 2015 Posted April 17, 2015 One thing that affects the distance between the tailpiece and bridge is the use of a Nashville style bridge or an ABR-1 bridge ... here are a couple of Gibson Les Pauls with the Nashville style.bridge.....

I don't agree, my heritages in the second and third pictures both have ABR's on them and still look different than the Gibbos.

But I found the nashville version looked very different from those and the Gibby's with nashville did look more similar to that one.

Funny thing, if you look at my historics you can see that the low e-string saddles are jammed back for the intonation to be correct.

JeffB Posted April 17, 2015 Posted April 17, 2015 Hello Jack... I dont think so. Theres a slightly different under current in his posting style. Maybe it is Jack speakng in a different accent.
bolero Posted April 17, 2015 Posted April 17, 2015 no that's not Jack, I don't think he'd bother trying to troll the forum plus he is still a Heritage fan, despite his unpleasant experiences here with some people who sold him misrepresented goods
