H-150 Special

Value is subjective. $900 to $1250 is my guess. Remove the cover of the control cavity, there is a sticker that details the model info. The dot inlays give it the appearance of a 150 Special...

Special is not a "P". P would denote Poplar for the body. Dont believe the Specials were Poplar. Just less ornate for a lower starting price. That's a mighty handsome guitar you have there. Even with the crater sized war wound. :icon_pirat:

P year should be .... 2001? maybe?

The H150P had a poplar body and would have had an opaque finish on the back and sides (usually black). The H150 Special would probably sell used in the $900-$1,100 range depending on condition.

So this one isn't black on the back. Thoughts? Just Heritage being Heritage?

Thoughts? Yours isn't Poplar. ......... hence no opaque finish.

There were plenty of H-150 Specials made. The specs were similar to the H-150P but the body was listed as hardwood, and they had a maple top. Regular finishes were available. Great guitars with a thinner body than the H-150CM.

P= 1999

Yeah, I thought about that. Should have taken my shoes off when I was counting years.

Some have disputed what I'm about to state again here, but as a former owner of multiple H150 Specials which I have opened up and examined VERY closely, here goes my take anyway...

H-150P is an all Poplar body. Usually has a solid color painted over it.

H-150 Special is a Poplar body with a Maple top. Has a translucent finish so that you can see the Maple top.

Here is a 150 Special a buddy owns. It is a 1996 and is thinner than the 150. Oddly it sustains longer and is louder acoustically than the 150 it is shown with below and another buddy's 150. I think the price quotes you have gotten are pretty much right on.

Poplar is an underrated tone wood.

If I was ever to order another 150, I'd be inclined to order a 140 thickness that is unchambered. I don't think the tone and/or sustain will be compromised. The 150 Special, in my opinion, is probably the best of both worlds between a 140 and 150. The larger upper bout of a 150 and a lighter/thinner body of a 140. Easier on the shoulders and sustain for days. Just my thoughts though, not fact....

I had an H150P and loved it. It was light, and very playable. For some reason, it was one of the guitars that reached for most often.

There were certainly no issues with the tone. But, given that I also owned an H150 Deluxe, and a Millennium Std Ultra, it was redundant, so I sold it.

Looks like you've also had a pickup modification. Notice the double adjustment screws on the bridge pickup and the single adjustment screws on the neck pickup?

You'll need to have a peek under each of them to see what you have.

I have a 150 Special which is a Goldtop with dark brown back and sides. It too was a 1999 model and originally came with Schaller pickups, bridge and tailpiece and, interestingly, Grover tuners. I've subsequently replaced the bridge and tailpiece with a "Nashville" setup and the pickups with Seymour Duncan P-Rails.
