C9Y Posted August 16, 2015 Posted August 16, 2015 The other day I ran across an archive of one of the coolest short-run magazines ever, Vacuum Tube Valley. I used to have a subscription, but it was expensive ($9/issue back in the Nineties.) It sadly ceased publication when one of the editors died. Imagine my joy at finding all of them archived in PDF form (my hard copies I loaned out and never got back.) Each issue typically featured a given tube type, the history on it, and a comparative listening test in both hi-fi and guitar amps, along with other features. A couple of quick hints, Bendix Red Bank tubes are in issue 5, the EL84 is in issue 8, 6V6 in issue 10, and 12AX7 in issue 14. So while it might be cork-sniffing to some (I'm thinking Kuz may be guilty), it still is a *very* interesting read, a free download, courtesy of the Wayback Machine. Pioneering Wireless (Radio) - eMagazines Highly recommended!
t0aj15 Posted August 16, 2015 Posted August 16, 2015 Thanx for the heads-up, I just downloaded all 20 issues.
212Mavguy Posted August 17, 2015 Posted August 17, 2015 The 12ax7 shootout article got me going on my tube rolling. Probably the best single article on 12ax7 tones ever written.
C9Y Posted August 17, 2015 Author Posted August 17, 2015 Got 'em. Good call C9Y I am glad to share with my HOC brethren. It was just such an awesome magazine, full of great information.
