What do I have?

Hello,

I recently bought a used Heritage VIP and I'm trying to figure out what it is. The knobs and switches seem wrong for a VIP 2 but it has two pickups where the VIP 1 only has 1. I guess what I'm trying to figure out is, is this a real Heritage or did someone bolt a Heritage neck to a different body.

Thanks.

Steve

Thanks for the response Mars_Hall. I was afraid of that. Lesson learned. I felt compelled to buy it because I thought it was a steal at $300 for such a prestigious name and that if it was a real Heritage, a hand made guitar. In the end it's a guitar that plays well and sounds great and is a lot of fun even if it's not the real deal. I was actually looking for a guitar with a locking trem system to compliment my Hagstrom Swede Select and my Godin Detour and when I found this Heritage (Clone) it seemed to be miles above in quality to anything else in that price range on the used classifieds.

Thanks again

Hi FredZepp, I have never opened the cover before. I will do that and let you know my findings. What I was hoping for, was that it was a VIP 1 that was modified into a VIP 2. The guy I bought the guitar from did not no much about it other then he took the original paint off and burnt the design into the wood himself. The neck pick up seems to have a shim if you look closely. He was a French Canadian hence the fleur de lis /maple leaf design.

When I compare the VIP 1/ VIP 2 to this guitar I have it just seems off. The knob configuration matches The VIP 1 The toggle switches don't match either as the VIP 1 has 2 toggles and the VIP 2 has four and mine has three.

The Trem system seems right. It's a Kahler system.

The body shape also seems right and the body seems bigger than a Fender Strat and it's definitely heavier then a Strat. I know the guitar does not fit into my buddies Hard Shell Fender Strat case.

I know the guitar is not worth much, but some how hoping it is a real Heritage guitar.

Yes, I like to pick up bargains on undervalued old Heritage designs too... I've got a VIP 1 and a Parsons Street that fit into this category.
