Finish checking on brand new Heritages

Is anybody aware of this happening, due to the extremely cold winters of 2014 and 2015 in Kalamazoo? I heard some finished guitars went out to the dealers with some minor checking.

I think it adds a little character to the appearance of the guitar. I have a nice VSB 150 that has undergone some natural checking on both the top and the backside.

I think it's been happening all along. When I bought my first Heritage (it's a 2001) there was one available that had suffered a "finish check" due to cold weather and it was offered with a discount. It wasn't the model I wanted so I passed.

Ive heard from a very reliable source that there was indeed a semi-serious finish checking issue that was occurring last winter that required many guitars to be stripped and refinished, however, these guitars where NOT shipped out until that guitar's particular checking issues were corrected.

Maybe some of the dealers that "check" in here at the HOC can comment and or expand on how things were ultimately fixed.

Alot of extra attention has been put into the Heritages finishes during that time period, guitars have been coming out like glass and everything was resolved and I don't suspect we will see what happened in winter to happen again.
