FredZepp
Like Marv, J.P Moats was from Alabama He started with Gibson in 1957. “ My sister worked at Gibson and she got someone to hire me — that was in 1957 — and I worked for them for 28 years.” At Gibson, J.P. started sanding white wood, moved to cleaning and buffing, and then became cleaning inspector. From there, it was a quick step to quality control. After a stint as wood purchaser, which took him to forests in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, Mississippi, the West Coast, Germany and other parts of the world, he returned to quality control and supervisor of the service department. When Gibson left the 225 Parsons Street Plant in 1984, three former employees decided to start Heritage Guitar (Jim Deurloo, Marvin Lamb, and J.P. Moats) Each agrees.." Heritage is a natural name for us." Bill Paige is added as an owner when the company is incorporated in 1985.

RhoadsScholar
Just read the news today. A sad, somber moment. found this quote from the REVERB.COM website. "Among Moat’s many contributions to the musical instrument industry is the Heritage American Eagle model." Going to do something special with the American Eagle this weekend.
