cobrafast1 Posted September 20, 2015 Posted September 20, 2015 I haven't been on here in a long time. So busy with so many things. I'm thinking about changing out my single wire Seymour Duncans for a 4 wire Zebra Seymour Duncan on my H-150 VSB. Possibly the PAF 59's, so I can split them. The stock pickups that came with the H-150 are chrome covered single wires. They sound okay, but the chrome is deteriorating quickly. I've had the guitar a little more than a year and the chrome looks like that off a 55 Ford/Chevy... I've never been fond of chrome PU's anyway. Also, any recommendations on wiring? I know now to spit PU's and all that and the N/S orientations. Just looking for any other tricks. Some of my other guitars, I've replaced the TONE caps with Orange Drops of the same value ( usually .022 ufd 200v ) and those guitars sound better afterwards. Any ideas or recommendations is appreciated. Thanks
Millennium Maestro Posted September 20, 2015 Posted September 20, 2015 I suspect the chrome is actually nickel and thus more prone to aging, Chrome is pretty easy to keep clean looking. I am PMing you my phone number, you are welcome to call and I can try to help you through your options. Guy
DetroitBlues Posted September 21, 2015 Posted September 21, 2015 Some people like that old petina on their guitar hardware. I agree with Maestro's assesment... If the chrome bridge and tailpiece aren't tarnishing, but the pickups are, I suspect they are nickel as well...
big bob Posted September 21, 2015 Posted September 21, 2015 I know I'll probably get blasted for this but..... Dimarzio's split better than Duncan's. I would look at their anniversary pafs.

rwinking Posted September 22, 2015 Posted September 22, 2015 I am putting some of the Anniversary PAFs in both my 140 and 170. I have some in a 1970's Ibanez Artist and they are so smooth. I was able to nail that Clapton tone form the Bluesbreaker era easily.
