Golden Eagle quick question

Nobody has any insight? I did email Heritage and they replied that it should have read "Limited Edition" and that different people have filled out the labels over the years and inferred that this person made a mistake.

Any opinions?

First of all, welcome to the HOC. That is a gorgeous GE.

It is difficult to tell from the small photo if there are other custom appointments that would set it apart and earn a special label. However, the way some of the business is done at Heritage, it is anyone's guess. An employee error is possible. But the guys also might have forgotten why.

There is more to this mystery. If you can show us more of the details of the instrument, that might at least give an idea of what special or unique features it has.

What I can tell from the tailpiece is that it is an early edition. Also, since the label has two identifying sets of numbers, it may be the special 'Registration Number' that the first 1,000 GE's received. That number should also match the registration number on the rear of the headstock. There were alto 5 layer bindings on the initial runs. Finally some of the custom options are 'choice woods', special pickups, wider nut/fretboards, and other personal specifications. Hope that helps.

It's currently at the UPS terminal about 12 miles from here, where it landed at 8 AM on 12/31 and has sat ever since. I'll get it late tomorrow. This one is #304 and was made in 1992. I used to own #39 (1986) and I really don't see any difference between the two, unless the wood was more 'choice'.

I think the first run of 1000 (maybe it was 500) were called this (Presentation model) and on the back of the headstock had in inlay "#(insert number) of 500".

Mine, serial no.E00201,merely says Golden Eagle on the paper label (not even the colour, which is antique sunburst)

and the back of the headstock reads KALAMAZOO MI
