neutria49 Posted December 2, 2015 Posted December 2, 2015 Thinking on the Seth Lovers or the Gibson classic 57. What do you think? Also wondering what something like a SH 11 might do or a SH 4
PunkKitty Posted December 2, 2015 Posted December 2, 2015 I really like the Seths. The Gibsons are darker sounding IMHO. But if you play at loud volumes, the Seths may feed back. But they sound great.
Polo Posted December 2, 2015 Posted December 2, 2015 Thinking on the Seth Lovers or the Gibson classic 57. What do you think? Also wondering what something like a SH 11 might do or a SH 4 I have Seth's in my H-535 and it's been my #1 for 6 years. I mostly play Classic rock. I've had SD 59's in a different H-535. They sounded tighter, more aggressive than the Seth's. Still great for Classic rock These SD hybrids might be worth a tickle. http://www.seymourduncan.com/pickup/59custom-hybrid
Conneazoo Posted December 2, 2015 Posted December 2, 2015 I'm all about some SD 59's. 59/09s and 57/08s are awesome as well, but that's a completely different ball o' wax.
Stringman Posted December 2, 2015 Posted December 2, 2015 Gotta give some support for the SD '59's. I just love those pickups in a semi-hollow situation. I have 57's and prefer the SD 59's. That's just one man's opinion. Best of luck. Stringman
Gianluca Posted December 2, 2015 Posted December 2, 2015 SD 59s on my H535 and they're great, as of today I'd probably choose something else there are tons of references of good PU makers on the net the Doug and Pat show on YouTube can be of help, see the 'Pickups shootout' series some PU makers refs: https://bareknucklepickups.co.uk http://www.sanfordmagnetics.com http://www.flametone.com http://www.throbak.com http://www.jimwagnerpickups.com http://www.corsaguitars.com/product/manalishi-pickups http://tammcustompickups.wix.com/tammcustompickups http://www.shedpickups.com http://www.rcpickups.com http://www.tysontone.com can't list them all, too many to mention

tulk1 Posted December 2, 2015 Posted December 2, 2015 I'm not familiar with the nomenclature 59/09s 57/08s. Can you tell me what that means? Pretty sure the 59/09 and 57/08 are PRS Pickups. 59/57 is the year they are trying to emulate. '08/'09 is the year that pickup was released/introduced.
DetroitBlues Posted December 2, 2015 Posted December 2, 2015 Seth lovers all the way... or at the very lease swap magnets.
kidsmoke Posted December 2, 2015 Posted December 2, 2015 I went from SD59's to Sheptone Tributes. Several here will tell you it's tonal Valhalla SCHWINNNG http://www.sheptone.com/Products/Humbucker
CJTopes Posted December 2, 2015 Posted December 2, 2015 I had 57 classics in my 535 and I thought it sounded great. Seths would be my second choice....

MichYank Posted December 2, 2015 Posted December 2, 2015 I confess to being a Seymour Duncan guy. My 575 has '59s modded with an A2 magnet in the neck and an Un-oriented A5 magnet in the bridge and they sound great!! The nice thing about the '59 and the Seth is that is that they are wound on the original Leesona machine from the G-Kalamazoo facility. I have a pair of APH-1's in my old 335 and they sound great. I cannot imagine you going wrong with either SD product in a 535.
neutria49 Posted December 2, 2015 Author Posted December 2, 2015 Here is my plan and a big thanks for all your input. I'm going to pull the HRWs and the entire harness. I am either going to go with the Guitar works 335 harness or make my own with Burns pots. I have access to some really old caps like bumblebees. Then I'm going to attach long wires to the pots and go through the pickup cavities so I can solder pickups to them and swap just like that out of the top so I don't have to remount the pots over and over. I only want to do that once. I get so frustrated when I swap pickups that I normally don't know if I've made a good choice or not for several weeks because I often get angry at the guitar and don't want to see it again for a few days. My friend with the caps says he can rig up a rotary dial on a plank that will switch between caps too. But, I also need a new bridge and nut so maybe I should do that first? Thanks again for the kind info.

Blunote Posted December 3, 2015 Posted December 3, 2015 If you're removing the HRWs and are planning to sell them, get a new switch tip so you can sell the dotted one with the HRWs. I've got HRWs in a couple of my Heritages and Seth Lovers in the my H150. They're all great.

These pickups are great just thinking my playing style is a bit different from what they like.
bolero Posted December 3, 2015 Posted December 3, 2015 neutria that;s a good idea with the wiring did I miss what pickups you decided on? I have Wolfetone Legends in mine, great PAF style pups
Millennium Maestro Posted December 3, 2015 Posted December 3, 2015 Those Hrw's are sweet, Seths are the most common 535 pickup after the transistion from Schaller. Seth are A2 magnet along with Pearly gates, Alnico pro's, Slashes.... Do you need 4 wires? Feel free to pm me with your phone number, I have a strong knowledge of the Seymour line. Why pay more! Have a great day, good luck in your venture!

PunkKitty Posted December 3, 2015 Posted December 3, 2015 To me there is something sacrilegious about putting Gibson pickups in a Heritage guitar. I really like Seths. I have a set of Mojotone '59 Clones in my 150 that I absolutely love. I prefer them over Seths. That being said, you specifically asked about Seths and 57 Classics. So I limited my original response to those pickups.
SLAPPADom Posted December 3, 2015 Posted December 3, 2015 Miss Kitty - where did you find those Mojotone '59 Clones? Over the summer I bought a DBZ semi hollow that feels great but could certainly use better pups and I want to try these out.

They have become one of my favorite pickups. Mine have alnico 4 magnets.
rwinking Posted December 3, 2015 Posted December 3, 2015 I have Punkkitty's 535 with the seth Lover's in it. I am a big fan of the Dimarzio 59s but will not put them in the 535 as the Seth Lover's sound just cool as sh*t.
