SLAPPADom Posted December 5, 2015 Posted December 5, 2015 OMG, At the end of the summer I came to my senses and said "I've got to sell this gear I don't use" - So I sold 3 guitars, 1 amp and 5 pedals. I have 2 others on the market right now, so I'm thinking "OK, I'm getting to a point where I have only gear I use. Then I get turned onto the look of these DBZ guitars and buy one of their semi-hollows - nice feel, pickups suck - so I've got to come around to buying new PUPS for it. Then I get an itch for a 150 - find a really nice once and buy it - love it - it's in the rotation. So I'm thinking, "ok, I'm down net 1 and when I sell these other 2 I'll be down net 3. Then temptation reared it's ugly head when PunkKitty was selling her H150 -- I was SOOOO CLOSE to pulling the trigger then, for one quick second of clarity I thought "what am I doing, I JUST bought a 150 last week!!" so I was (somehow) able to do the right thing. Then I thought, "ok, I'm through this latest bought of gas." Then I see a Blackface bassman priced right and I say, "well you can't pass on this deal". OK, sold my Vox and put the bassman in it's place - no harm done. THEN yesterday I buy a Twin Reverb head - it was a steal, so I justified that saying "I'd be crazy not to buy this for $400. Ok, so that was just jumping on opportunity -- THEN this a.m. for reasons unknown to me, I'm on craigslist searching for a 555 - and of course I find one that was just listed, it's a beauty and, what do I do - make the guy an offer and now I have another 555. Yeah It's a beauty and yeah I got an really good price on it, but what in the world am I doing???? So now I'm back at 10 guitars, 5 of which I never play, and 5 amps. I should sell so much of this gear. UGGGGH - it's a disease.

UGGGGH - it's a disease. i feel your pain...welcome. you'll find empathy here but no path to recovery. there is no hope, no cure, only an endless cycle of buy and sell and buy more. somehow you always end up with more. fact that we sell some makes it ok later to buy even more. i just did a "one pedal out - three pedals in" move (oh, and an H150 guitar too). not exactly an even swap.

Sold 2, but now I have another coming in. I've come to the realization that as long as I have the means and interest, I'll always have this issue. Keeps my time occupied.
PunkKitty Posted December 5, 2015 Posted December 5, 2015 GAS really should be listed as a disorder in the DSM.
Millennium Maestro Posted December 5, 2015 Posted December 5, 2015 I am staying away from this topic! Saint Slappadom....
AP515 Posted December 5, 2015 Posted December 5, 2015 I bought another one over Thanksgiving. Was my first in 2 years. That's got to count for something!
Tim Posted December 5, 2015 Posted December 5, 2015 Yes, I understand completely. GAS hit me hard 8 years ago (as well as the mid life crisis...could be worse though). Just a mild mannered basement musician with two guitars... an epiphone PR6E acoustic electric and a Fender Squire Strat. I just reorganized my playing space...now I have 35 guitars, 3 amps, numerous recording and processing equipment, 9 keyboards, and a plethora of additional modules and stuff, drum machines... The buying spree was ugly and hit me hard. I am better now (just trading stuff) but still dealing with the aftermath. Now looking at selling (keyboard stuff mainly...very happy with my guitar collection).

brentrocks Posted December 5, 2015 Posted December 5, 2015 Resistance is futile. I just bought a H157. I already have a Mark Slaughter H150, H137, a Firebird and a tripple pickup H150/Gibson Custom.......didnt NEED the H157
JeffB Posted December 5, 2015 Posted December 5, 2015 Im GAS free. I just like buying stuff to satisfy my curiosity about things.
SLAPPADom Posted December 5, 2015 Author Posted December 5, 2015 I don't know if I feel better knowing I'm not all alone - or if we all need to check into a help center. Polo I'll post pics as soon as it arrives. The guy I purchased it from literally just called from the FedEx office and he's sending it out now. I should have it Monday or Tuesday
SLAPPADom Posted December 5, 2015 Author Posted December 5, 2015 seller just sent me a few pics - arrives Thursday (man the admins must improve this site - adding pics is a pain)
Polo Posted December 5, 2015 Posted December 5, 2015 Awesome....that's one of my favorite 555 configurations!! Congrats.

I keep waiting for you to play, but you just go right back to where you started!!! SLAAPADom. Not sure it's a mid-life crisis so much as it's a musician-life crisis. I hear Visa and Mastercard have a cure for it.
Gillnetter Posted December 5, 2015 Posted December 5, 2015 Hello, My name is Gillnetter and I'm a gearoholic. "Hi Gillnetter".
TalismanRich Posted December 6, 2015 Posted December 6, 2015 That's one nice looking 555. Which color is closer to the real thing, 1 or 2?
Gtwibs Posted December 13, 2015 Posted December 13, 2015 I saw this one listed on craigslist locally. Looks amazing! Enjoy it
schundog Posted December 13, 2015 Posted December 13, 2015 Harumph! I'm just glad I don't have this weakness like the rest of you guys.... Yeah, right, I spent the day today driving 5 hours round trip to pick up a 3rd H-150 that I don't need. I got to meet an HOC-er that I hadn't met yet, though, and got a great guitar at a great price. Who cares if I need it or not?! Yeah, I'm nutz, too.....

Sillytele Posted December 13, 2015 Posted December 13, 2015 I'm sorry for your pain, but remember, it could be worse. At least we have the benefit of loving high quality guitars that don't cost alarm and an egg.
Stringman Posted December 13, 2015 Posted December 13, 2015 Gang: Been there with you. A friend of mine wrote a book on "GAS - Gear Acquisition Syndrome" and it's a real problem. I, myself, have been as high as 19 guitars and am now down to a manageable 9. Actually severed the cord one day and sold 10 guitars to Guitar Center for decent prices and put the money in the bank. I've only added 1 guitar since then and have downloaded two more. I think if we consider ourselves a "work in progress" on this topic, we'll all be better off with a LOT less guilt. Take care.
