Started my pup and harness swap Friday. Got this far and found my bridge pup ring is a bit tight. Not sure where I got it or what it was mounted on. Also need 3 more HB springs and long screws. So here it sits. Hopefully GC or Music Go Round will have them when they open up today. But this gave me a chance to really look at the grain on the guitar. Interesting markings I don't have a name for unless they are mineral deposits. Frank also stopped by and insisted he polish the frets and oil the board. I have mixed feelings about oiling the FB but after he did it the grain on it really popped. Nice dark RW with nice grain.

Anyone know what to call this grain pattern in the top?

Curly face grain with a cathedral pattern.

Oiling the fretboard is always a good idea.

Pretty guitar.

I was going to say Wood Grain. :icon_tongue: But me thinks Steiner probably has a correct answer, as well. Fretboard looks nice all oiled up!

Sweet grain..I call it vertical but what do I know? Steiner's sound's better.

Regarding pickup rings, I've replaced some and have done well getting them unshaped (flat bottoms) then sanding them down to the shape of the top. Hold the sandpaper flat in the area where it will mount and rub the rings against the sand paper. Member H had a thread here a long time ago showing how to do it. Works great

Thanks for the tip. I was able to get what I needed from Music GR here shortly after my post. 5 hours later and I have a new harness and pickups inside. (Thanks by the way). Still experimenting with caps and other pups. I think I'm still going to try a JB in the bridge. :icon_shaking2::icon_shaking2: But who knows if it will stay there. I'm running wires so I don't need to remount and resolder the pots.

A buddy thinks you shouldn't oil the fretboard but since I have to do the maintenance on his guitars I do it anyway. One time the fretboard was so dry I was afraid it would crack if it weren't oiled. I use lemon oil and one of my old socks.

IF anyone want's a polishing sock PM me. ;^)

That's what we used. Or I guess I should say he used. He said the same thing that the fretboard would disintegrate.

Still working on this. I've been in a really bad mood lately and that's no time to try to find your tone. So it's leaning against my desk waiting.
