yopietro Posted December 23, 2015 Posted December 23, 2015 First post on the forum. I picked up a Heritage guitar 15 years ago at a second-hand store. After taking it out after many years in storage, I took it to my trusted luthier today for a setup and turns out after some digging around, he identified it as an H-101 from 1987. Single pickup. Original body, neck, pickup, headstock with serial number, parts all original. Anyone else have this guitar? Is it rare? Any thoughts or info would be appreciated!
PunkKitty Posted December 23, 2015 Posted December 23, 2015 Welcome to the HOC. There aren't many H-101's. I'd like to see pictures. Please post them.
yopietro Posted December 23, 2015 Author Posted December 23, 2015 Wow. That is amazing to know it's so rare. I will post pics when it gets back from the guitar shop set-up. As I mentioned, all original parts in good shape. The only thing has to do with the paint. I saw from the stock photo that the original paint on the H-101 seemed to be grey. When I bought mine at the second-hand store, the color on the body was a brown wood color. I didn't have a sense of the value of it, so I decided at the time to let my girlfriend, who was an artist, take a stab at designing a paint job for it. She put down one coat of light blue paint with a white design on the front, but she never finished it and lacquered it. The back of the body is still that brown wood color. Anyhow, I will post pics within the next couple of days when the guitar is back from the shop for those interested to see. Does anyone have an idea if the guitar is in good shape (other than the paint on the body), what kind of value it has these days? And would it be worth restoring it with a pro paint job to look and feel like it would have when it came out of the factory in 1987? Thanks for any thoughts!
tulk1 Posted December 23, 2015 Posted December 23, 2015 Being rare for a Heritage and having vintage value are not necessarily co-existent. Most likely it's worth what you paid for it. As for restoring, pretty sure you won't find that paint or color anywhere. It was actually a sort of raised stucco-type finish, IRC. Kinda cool in the pics. Maybe not so much in reality. Altho' I must say, I think it'd be cool to have one, and even cooler if one found a matching Bass.
Polo Posted December 26, 2015 Posted December 26, 2015 Welcome to the Heritage party line! Im really looking forward to seeing this custom paint job.....and the guitar of course.
HANGAR18 Posted December 26, 2015 Posted December 26, 2015 The cool factor exceeds the value, so you probably ought to just enjoy playing it. Welcome to the HOC!
