Been hemming and hawing over a tube head buy for some time now...

Sweetwater had a demo Mesa Boogie Express Plus 5:50 head at a very nice discount so I pulled the trigger. Looking forward to a fun New Year's day with my new amp. Seems a highly versatile amp with plenty of gravitas (I love 6L6s). Power scaling to class A 5 and 25 watts as well as full bore at A/B 50. Should be fun. Will report back...

Speaking of being a Blackface guy - I've been chasing a mid - 60's Twin Reverb tone (a la Kenny Burrell and pre-Boogie Santana) for a long time. I had a TRRI 12 years ago and loved it, but hated the weight and bulk (and was not nearly good enough a player to justify having it- i just loved the sound) so I sold it. Been looking for a suitable and more manageable alternative ever since. In addition to the high versatility and utility of the Express line and having demo'd several MB's in the past: Here's the review comment that put me over the top and convinced me to got with the 5:50 over the 5:25:

Channel 1’s Clean mode combined with the luscious Accutronics spring reverb produces one of the best clean tones I’ve heard from a Mesa, with a fat roundness and three-dimensional clarity that rivals a vintage Twin Reverb. Chris Gill, Guitar World, 2009 (reviewing the predecessor model without the 5 band EQ).

Also- now reading up on the history of Boogie - I learned that Randall Smith started by hot-rodding Blackface Princetons and other BF Fenders. Apparently that was the origin of the early King Snake that Santana used back in the day. Probably old news to you all, but it was a nice piece of history to learn especially given the sound I was looking for.

I've got nice Earcandy 2x12 that was for sale a while back, but nobody even sniffed at it. So i had no choice but to get a head to go with it. I'm sure you all understand that logic, right?

Heck yeah. Logic is a great tool. You are clearly a smart one!
