rwinking Posted December 24, 2015 Posted December 24, 2015 There is an H-150, honey burst in a store here for $1000 and I may be able to get it for $8-900. It has a Q serial number which puts it in the early 2000s. My question is about the pickups. I am not sure what they are, but I thought that I read here that the Schallers are mounted with two screws or something like that. This one has one screw per pickup so I am thinking that they are not Schallers, which is probably a good thing. The H-150 is the one sound I lack. If I pick it up, it will be my last Heritage, thus fulfilling the prophecy.....
davesultra Posted December 24, 2015 Posted December 24, 2015 They could still be Schaller pickups as you can mount them in a ring using a single screw. But, most likely they have been swapped for something else. Sounds like a good price.
PunkKitty Posted December 24, 2015 Posted December 24, 2015 Grab it if you can. If they are Schallers, they are decent sounding PAFs. If not, they are likely Duncan '59s or something similar. Either way, you can't go wrong. And you can always swap pickups.
Gitfiddler Posted December 24, 2015 Posted December 24, 2015 A 150 for $1,000 or better will not last long...even in Montana in the dead of winter.
FredZepp Posted December 24, 2015 Posted December 24, 2015 I have a set of old Schaller pickups that came with a purchase, now sitting in a drawer waiting for a place to go. But I did have a chance to play an old H-150 that was brought to me to set-up that had Schallers. I liked the sound of them in that guitar. It's also possible that there may be some variance in the sound of Schallers used in different years, as I have heard various descriptions of them. You're right , that it is likely that the 1 screw per side indicates a Duncan if installed at the factory.
Polo Posted December 24, 2015 Posted December 24, 2015 Looks like a nice enough burst! https://www.instagram.com/p/_j13aGDVAa/ http://www.musicvilla.com/?s=heritage&submit.x=0&submit.y=0&post_type=post
Gianluca Posted December 24, 2015 Posted December 24, 2015 it depends on the guitar health status....but it looks like a good price

rwinking Posted December 25, 2015 Author Posted December 25, 2015 The guitar is in pretty good shape except that the neck has a lot of wear on the back. The finish is worn through from about the 3rd through the 10th fret. I think I will sit for a couple of weeks and see if it moves and then make an offer. It is a consignment at a local store and the guy may want to move it more than wait. I have had schallers on my other Heritages except the 535. The Dimarzio Anniversary PAFs were quite an improvement in all of them. Like most people say, the Schallers ar not bad, they are just not great and good Pups move a guitar from being a good guitar to a great one.
Hfan Posted December 25, 2015 Posted December 25, 2015 Nice deal, a lot of guitar for the money. Wear to the back of the neck would not bother me but how are the frets? I don't do divots. I would put on a conventional Gotoh or Tone Pros stop tail just for cosmetic reasons but that;s just me. Schallers ain't bad..I lived with them in an H157 for a few years but the Seths I replaced them with are much better to me. I keep hearing those Dimarzio Anniversary PAFs are great reasonably priced pickups..I've considered some very expensive pickups and just can't justify the crazy prices. There is a guy on ebay who sells Seths for $160 a pair..hard to beat.
tbonesullivan Posted December 25, 2015 Posted December 25, 2015 those pickups are nickel plated, as you can see from the tarnish. Schallers are all chrome plated, so they never get like that. My guess would be those are Seymour Duncan '59s, or maybe Seth Lovers. Most likely stock. Only way to really know would be to look at the sticker inside the control cavity.
rwinking Posted December 25, 2015 Author Posted December 25, 2015 I looked at the control cavity and it didn't mention Pups, just H-150CM and then the honey burst abbreviation. Good to know that they may be Duncans. Like I and most everyone says, the Schallers are ot horrible, the Anniversary PAFs are just that much better as would be the Duncans. BTW, Has anyone seen that gold top on reverb.com? https://reverb.com/item/546862-heritage-les-paul-h150-1994-gold-with-orignal-case It is an early 90s and advertised as brand new for $1200. I don't get the Brand New designation, but if it is in new shape ti would be a better deal than this honey burst.

Too much gold on that one for me.
tulk1 Posted December 26, 2015 Posted December 26, 2015 Honeyburst? What is that? I'd be curious to see the color abbreviation. Never heard of a Heritage Honeyburst.
HANGAR18 Posted December 26, 2015 Posted December 26, 2015 Honeyburst? What is that? I'd be curious to see the color abbreviation. Never heard of a Heritage Honeyburst. They could probably make something like Gibson's Hooneyburst using their Amber Translucent and just darken the edges or maybe a Vintage Sunburst and darken up the edges. I've got the Gibby version (see attached Honeyburst photo) but I have no doubt Heritage could spray this finish.

tulk1 Posted December 26, 2015 Posted December 26, 2015 I didnt think Heritage would mark one called Honeyburst, unless that was a special request. Thought this might be a case like where we'very seen others calling OSB "Coffee". I have a somewhat unique color I went over with Marv. That guitar came in marked as DASB. That's really all I was saying. And that is just my limited experience with a custom color. Whatever this one is, it's gorgeous. Honeyburst or ALSB or whatever.
rwinking Posted December 30, 2015 Author Posted December 30, 2015 So I was able to get the H-150 for $800! It was not a honey burst but a Chestnut burst once I took the back plate off. Still not sure of the puPs, but it was a consignment and I was able to speak with the seller. he wasn't exactly sure. but he said they were PAF Duane Allman Pick Ups which led me to a search and I am guessing they are Fillmore's by Jim Wagner or darkbursts. At any rate, they sound really nice and balanced. I am one happy little cowboy now!

Hfan Posted December 30, 2015 Posted December 30, 2015 wow that's cheap and it's a nice one congrats..really crazy cheap
Conneazoo Posted December 30, 2015 Posted December 30, 2015 Oh yeah. Great deal!! And has been mentioned, but pics! Congrats!
rwinking Posted December 30, 2015 Author Posted December 30, 2015 So a while back I tried to post some pics, but the photobucket thread didn't really help me. If someone could pm me on how to do this with real clear instructions (ala' explain it to me like I am a five year old....) I would gladly post some pics.
Conneazoo Posted December 30, 2015 Posted December 30, 2015 I have found Photobucket to be the easiest way. In Photobucket click on the picture you want to look at (or upload). On the right of the page you should see a "Share this Picture" header with a list of options. Using the "IMG" option, either LEFT click the word IMG or in the text box beside it. In either case the text box should flash yellow and the word "Copied" will appear for a second or two. In the "Reply to this topic" box here on the HOC, RIGHT click and select paste. The link to the pic should appear. I find it helpful to enter down a couple times to make sure it hangs out. Furthermore, I always select "More reply options" then select "Preview Post" so I can get it to look decent. Hope this helps. Can't wait to see your new axe!
Conneazoo Posted December 30, 2015 Posted December 30, 2015 Oooops. You said that you wanted to be PM'd. Sorry.
