brentrocks Posted January 14, 2016 Posted January 14, 2016 Buying sight-unseen from a pawn shop is enough to drive you insane....."is it gonna be a piece of s**t?" "Am I gonna get screwed?" "Is it gonna show up in one piece?" I got lucky on this one. This is a 1999 Heritage H550 Custom. Trans-cherry finish Curly maple top, back and rim Ebony board with blocks Schaller pickups Schaller tailpiece and roller bridge Planet Waves locking tuners 2 1/2 Rim Florentine cutaway 3 piece flame maple neck Bound and inlayed headstock Bound F holes Multi-ply binding on the top This 550 is surprisingly easy to play. I thought it was gonna be a lot thicker. The tone is amazing! Feedback is not as bad as I expected....must be a laminate top. I did discover a small piece if the 3rd fret marker missing...looks like it cracked and fell off. I think i'm gonna take it to Pete Moreno for a new pickguard and a fret level, there are a couple high frets. I think I can get the action even lower with a little fret work. I was really worried about the thickness of the body and comfort while playing standing up. I find it to be quite comfortable and easy to play. We'll see how long the honeymoon lasts....i'm really digging it right now though!
barrymclark Posted January 14, 2016 Posted January 14, 2016 Quite a custom job. Florentine instead of Venetian. 2.5" instead of 3" depth. Do the locking tuners appear to be factory? When I refill the gear coffers (I just got a late 70's Guild X500) I would be pleased as PUNCH if I came across a 1996 Heritage H550.
Gitfiddler Posted January 14, 2016 Posted January 14, 2016 Brent, your pics look 100% better than the seller's. Nice looking axe. Did you remove the 'stuffing' inside the f-holes?
Doug Posted January 14, 2016 Posted January 14, 2016 ...So no thoughts of changing your name to match that pick guard then?
brentrocks Posted January 14, 2016 Author Posted January 14, 2016 Brent, your pics look 100% better than the seller's. Nice looking axe. Did you remove the 'stuffing' inside the f-holes? Thanks Tim!! There are a couple pieces of foam deep in back. I'm afraid to do damage to the f hole binding trying to get them out.
brentrocks Posted January 14, 2016 Author Posted January 14, 2016 ...So no thoughts of changing your name to match that pick guard then? Lol. Nahhhh. It's doesn't fit me.
davesultra Posted January 14, 2016 Posted January 14, 2016 That's a pretty slick looking axe there. Not exactly my cup-o-tea, but pretty slick nonetheless.

brentrocks Posted January 15, 2016 Author Posted January 15, 2016 What is it strung with? I have 11s on it

There are no additional holes on the back of the headstock, although it appears these tuner have the same footprint as Grovers, so, maybe?
JeffB Posted January 15, 2016 Posted January 15, 2016 I always liked the look of that guitar but the pics you have taken make it look even better. Sweet looking guitar. Have fun.

Thanks man! I have always been a BIG believer in the fact that PICTURES SELL....I guess i'm lucky that they took crappy pics....I never would have scored a Heritage of this caliber otherwise. I'm taking it to Pete today for a fret level and new pickguard
brentrocks Posted January 15, 2016 Author Posted January 15, 2016 Look what I found hiding inside!!!! Lmao!!!!
brentrocks Posted January 15, 2016 Author Posted January 15, 2016 Great find! Looks like a real swinger. Thanks man!!!
DetroitBlues Posted January 15, 2016 Posted January 15, 2016 Look what I found hiding inside!!!! Lmao!!!! common old school tecnique for feedback control. Malcom Young used old socks!
FredZepp Posted January 15, 2016 Posted January 15, 2016 'Another great grab for Brent. Not only a sweet instrument but a great bargain, I'm sure. How cool it is to pick up a Parsons Street crafted instrument such as this one and then have Brent/ Pete fine tune it.

Polo Posted January 15, 2016 Posted January 15, 2016 Had a chance to see this one for the second time today and WOW....she really cleaned up nice! Congrats on the rescue!
rwinking Posted January 15, 2016 Posted January 15, 2016 Totally cool guitar! Ted Nugent used to stuff his Byrdland with sox also. Brent, put the sox back so you will be in good company!
rwinking Posted January 15, 2016 Posted January 15, 2016 As I listen to it, I loved the clean tone. the dirty one is nice but the clean is almost acoustic like.
