heritage crashed - decrease of value?

Cheers,

I am a guy from Salzburg Austria who normally prefers to practice on my guitar, rather than posting in an online forum. I registered here because my beloved Cherry (Heritage 535 Cherry, Bigsby, Serial No. T09403, I bought it five years ago, used and in a very nice condition) happened to get into an accident today.

There are building works in the neighbour apartment, and today, pieces of the wall crashed into my apartment – and on my Heritage – after it had fallen off the wall including the quicklock guitar holder..... No explanation of how shocked I was, waking up from wall-breaking drill sounds, after a short night, and tapping into the studio....staring at Cherry & Boogie (MK II)....

To see what I saw – join the picture gallery....

But nevertheless: So my guitar gently weeps and there are no heavy damages. But as you can see, my previously pristine guitar turned into a wreck, with a broken tone control pot and more than ten scratches and injuries of the varnish.

Finally, I would like to ask, can some of you support me in my research concerning the height of value decrease? (This guy has got an insurance.)

Thanks and best regards.

Wow, what a mess! Under the circumstances, could have turned out a lot worse. The guitar can be repaired based on the pictures--glad YOU weren't injured. Welcome to the club!

It has a bit of mojo now. Be thankful it was only a control knob and a couple scratches. I've seen much worse to include caved in bodies and broken headstocks....

Hannes,

Welcome aboard.

Sorry to hear about what happened. The good thing is that the guitar is basically intact, especially that the headstock is good. The bare minimum is going to be having a shop change out the busted controls, whichI would guess is going to be around $100-$150 to have that fixed. That doesn't include any refinishing. I recently picked up a 60th Anniv Vintage 54 strat that had a scratch on the back. It dropped the cost by about $400 from what a comparable used one. It absolutely doesn't change the way the guitar plays, and from the front you don't see anything. For a player, its not an issue, but for a collector, its a kiss of death.

I would ask for at least 500Eu for compensation on the guitar alone. Take the guitar in to have the controls fixed, and have a good setup done at the same time.

Good luck!

Cheers,

Thanks so much for so many welcomes and quick responses

efforts to make me forget my sorrow.

All useful information (Talisman),

interesting questions,

– does the factory do repairs?

So well, the mesa seems to be OK, nevertheless I'll have to get it checked and cleaned .

Just to let you know, Cherry has never been played onstage, never been on tours, or was hard used. I only used it for special sounds,

or sometimes when I feel jazzy, cause most of the time I play my

Strat or the Gibson.

I thought the best would be to keep her on a safe place in the Living room studioand kept it like a – well: heritage...

On the picture you can see how it was before ,glad that the Gibson was not hanging there that day.
