MikeChandler Posted February 5, 2016 Posted February 5, 2016 Is it an option to build a shorter scale H-157, and is it something anybody here has done? I know that minuscule decrease of scale length shouldn't make a difference, but actually it does for me.
tulk1 Posted February 5, 2016 Posted February 5, 2016 They did a long scale for Mr. Soloway. I'd imagine they could a short scale, too. Might cost a bit more, since it isn't "stock". Monday -- call them early (they are on Eastern time), talk to Ren. He'll tell you right then and there "yay" or "nay".
Millennium Maestro Posted February 5, 2016 Posted February 5, 2016 I am not the factory but here is my take... Heritage is a small company that is not setup to build 24.5 scale guitars, I asked about another very small neck alteration for another customer and was informed about all the differences... How that product would need special care at every step of the process, one mistake could means a rebuild. Heritage builds the Best, Still Handmade, True to original, old school late 50's, current build on a classic guitar... Why would you ask them for something different? They are Heritage..... NOT PRibsumStein.
tbonesullivan Posted February 5, 2016 Posted February 5, 2016 If they currently had a 24.5 neck/fretboard available, I would say it might be possible, but they don't. There was an employee build (yes THAT one) which had the 25.5 scale fretboard/neck from one of the big jazz boxes. The alterations required would be to just about everything. bridge location. Pickup location. Electronics routing location. It would all be off by just a tiny bit, but that tiny bit is a problem.

TalismanRich Posted February 6, 2016 Posted February 6, 2016 I don't think any of their guitars are 24.5". Their tooling is set up for 24 3/4 and 25 1/2 inch scales. It would require a total reset of the fret spacing for a savings of 1/4 inch. Placing the bridge and pickups wouldn't be as much of a change but the fret spacing is crucial to keep things intonated correctly.
pressure Posted February 6, 2016 Posted February 6, 2016 They also have a setup for 25" scale used on the Johnny Smith model.
goSteelers Posted February 7, 2016 Posted February 7, 2016 Not a Heritage, but 24.5 scale and probably a really nice guitar: http://www.prsguitars.com/santana/ There is also a Santana SE series, which would be much less expensive.
JeffB Posted February 7, 2016 Posted February 7, 2016 Because it's easier doing three finger leads with just that minimal scale change. Some folks just don't have their lefty pinkys anymore. That certainly makes it a reasonable question deserving of a less hyperbolic reply. I can only think of duo sonics and the Rickenbacker 325. 20.75". No LP type guitars come to mind. A friend lost most of the finger that you wave at authority on his left hand and took up with a modded duo sonic type guitar. He sounds great. Doesnt seem to have slowed him down. Good luck.
Spectrum13 Posted February 7, 2016 Posted February 7, 2016 Some folks just don't have their lefty pinkys anymore. That's why you always point the pinky out when having tea.
ElNumero Posted February 7, 2016 Posted February 7, 2016 Curious as to how a 1/4 shorter scale helps on 3 finger leads. Is it the string bending becomes easier?
