1995 Golden Eagle no. 526

1996 Golden Eagle no. 526-2

In 1995 the late-great J.P. Moats procured some stunning Quilted Maple at my request (mostly begging). JP called & inquired..."what would you like me to build?..." I sent him specs for 6 archtops & this is one of 'em. I just yanked it from it's case for the 1'st time in 20 years- N.O.S Heritage Golden Eagle, Antique Natural finish, JP's Quilted maple, Tap tuned by the late/great Aaron Cowles. Still brand new, so beautiful and a testiment to the extreme artistry of the Heritage guys in Kalamazoo. I kept this one and a couple others, which I will photograph in the coming weeks. How does it sound? Don't know- never played her!!

Good Lord - posting pic's of an instrument like that one, here, is akin to walking into a packed AA meeting with a bottle of 21 year old single malt and yelling "LOOKEE HERE!" :laughing9:

NOT FAIR, JAY!! You know how weak I am for quilted maple archtops!! That one even tops my '93 GE.

That tap tuned beauty was made to be played.

I've heard of tapped tune. Never had an opportunity to A/B test one with a normal guitar. Never really had the opportunity to try any archtops regardless. Looks stunning! It's a shame you don't play them.

Even the neck appeared to be curly.

Oh well, her time will come, I'm sure of it. No such beauty will be locked away forever.

Indeed. These beauties live on for centuries. She will be played at some point.

That looks like the same batch of wood from which J.P. and the guys turned out the American Eagle that Dr. Mark was photographing and handling the sale of last year. That guitar--which I believe he ended up buying--was absolutely gorgeous. He reports that it sounds divine, too.

This AE is even better looking, IMO, with the more modest level of trim. With J.P. no doubt rolling the neck and Aaron Cowles doing the plate tuning and braces, the guitar just has to be a great sounding instrument. Its looks are simply stunning.
