jaywolfe Posted February 19, 2016 Posted February 19, 2016 In 1995 the late-great J.P. Moats procured some stunning Quilted Maple at my request (mostly begging). JP called & inquired..."what would you like me to build?..." I sent him specs for 6 archtops & this is one of 'em. I just yanked it from it's case for the 1'st time in 20 years- N.O.S Heritage Golden Eagle, Antique Natural finish, JP's Quilted maple, Tap tuned by the late/great Aaron Cowles. Still brand new, so beautiful and a testiment to the extreme artistry of the Heritage guys in Kalamazoo. I kept this one and a couple others, which I will photograph in the coming weeks. How does it sound? Don't know- never played her!!
bolero Posted February 19, 2016 Posted February 19, 2016 oh yeah.....that is a real beauty!! thx for posting the pics
Spectrum13 Posted February 19, 2016 Posted February 19, 2016 Like a bugs bunny cartoon... BOING!!!!!!
myoldfriend Posted February 19, 2016 Posted February 19, 2016 Good Lord - posting pic's of an instrument like that one, here, is akin to walking into a packed AA meeting with a bottle of 21 year old single malt and yelling "LOOKEE HERE!"

DetroitBlues Posted February 19, 2016 Posted February 19, 2016 I've heard of tapped tune. Never had an opportunity to A/B test one with a normal guitar. Never really had the opportunity to try any archtops regardless. Looks stunning! It's a shame you don't play them.
pressure Posted February 20, 2016 Posted February 20, 2016 Fab Golden Eagle Mr. Wolfe. Thanks for sharing.
Conneazoo Posted February 20, 2016 Posted February 20, 2016 Awesome guitar. no pictures of the headstock?
tsp17 Posted February 20, 2016 Posted February 20, 2016 One of the best examples of Heritage work I've ever seen.
SofaPlayer Posted February 21, 2016 Posted February 21, 2016 This.... Oh well, her time will come, I'm sure of it. No such beauty will be locked away forever.
High Flying Bird Posted February 22, 2016 Posted February 22, 2016 Even the neck appeared to be curly.
jaywolfe Posted February 22, 2016 Author Posted February 22, 2016 Oh well, her time will come, I'm sure of it. No such beauty will be locked away forever. Indeed. These beauties live on for centuries. She will be played at some point. Jay Wolfe
Speedyeast Posted February 22, 2016 Posted February 22, 2016 That looks like the same batch of wood from which J.P. and the guys turned out the American Eagle that Dr. Mark was photographing and handling the sale of last year. That guitar--which I believe he ended up buying--was absolutely gorgeous. He reports that it sounds divine, too. This AE is even better looking, IMO, with the more modest level of trim. With J.P. no doubt rolling the neck and Aaron Cowles doing the plate tuning and braces, the guitar just has to be a great sounding instrument. Its looks are simply stunning.
SilverDollar Posted March 7, 2016 Posted March 7, 2016 That's the most incredible wood I've ever seen. I need that guitar.
hinesarchtop Posted March 7, 2016 Posted March 7, 2016 Too bad it doesn't get played....a shame really. All tap tuned and stuck in a case. Beautiful example.
