MrB Posted March 3, 2016 Posted March 3, 2016 Greetings, Been away since my first ordering fiasco, but now I'm ready to pull the trigger on a Millie DC. I'm sure this topic has come up many times in the past, but... Would you please give me your thoughts on pickups? I'm torn between Seth Lovers and '59s, or some combination of the two. How would you compare the sounds of these models in a Millie? Thanks, Mr B
Polo Posted March 3, 2016 Posted March 3, 2016 I can personally report that (2) 59s in a Millie is unstoppable......but I also feel that 1 59 and 1 Seth would be even more unstoppable. Frankly, this is a no lose situation for you. Congrats.

Millennium Maestro Posted March 3, 2016 Posted March 3, 2016 Seth are factory loaded in most Millies, I believe the A2 magnet and un potted pickup is the perfect choice for the brighter Millenniums. I just received a smokin Ultra top Standard I custom ordered with p90's . Mmmmmmm
Polo Posted March 3, 2016 Posted March 3, 2016 ............ Where would you put them? '59 in the Bridge, Seth in the Neck? Yes sir,I've enjoyed that exact pup config (59 iinbridge, Seth in neck) in 2 different H535's and think it would be outstanding choice for the Millie as well.
tbonesullivan Posted March 4, 2016 Posted March 4, 2016 My Millennium has Seths. You can't really go wrong with them. Sure it might squeal a bit if you play it loud, but that's what it's all about. '59s would also be good, but a little hotter and more crisp. The seths are more raw, IMHO. Or you could always buck the trend and put a set of Dimarzio 36th anniversary PAFs in there. Sweet Sweet tone.
MrB Posted March 4, 2016 Author Posted March 4, 2016 Thanks gents, The sound I want is clear and clean, with good articulation of the individual notes in a chord. Not looking for that thick, mid-heavy H150 / LP through a Marshall sound. Warmth, with a strong bottom, and nice bright highs that are smooth and not too brittle or harsh. I'm attracted to the more scooped mids of the '59s, but concerned they could be too bright for a maple body, not sweet enough. They also seem to have a high output for vintage pickups. I'm afraid of the possible squawk from the un-potted Seths. I heard they could be ordered with wax potting as an option. Anyone tried this? Are the Seths too muddy sounding for me? Interesting idea of '59 bridge (to bring out the brightness) and Seth neck (for more warmth), but the reverse could also be interesting. Seth bridge (to tame the brightness of this position) and '59 neck (to add clarity here). I'll have to look in to the DiMarzio 36th's. Sweet is good! Mr B
tbonesullivan Posted March 4, 2016 Posted March 4, 2016 You might also consider the SD Alnico Pro II. Lower out put but many say they sound really nice.

Mr B Very close in nature to the Seth are the potted Pearly Gates(CJTopes has this combo) and my favorite the Slash( Slightly Darker), Alnico pros Hopefully CJ will chime in, he works with his Millie DC.
