rwinking Posted March 16, 2016 Posted March 16, 2016 So I found a Black H-157. It is a "P" serial number which puts it around 2001. Some scratches on the back but frets and everything else are pretty nice. Three questions: 1) It didn't say anything on the back plate about pups, so I can assume that they are Schallers, right? 2) They want $1600 for it (which seems way too much...) but I may get them down to $1200. Does that sound reasonable? 3) Do I really need another Heritage Guitar?
High Flying Bird Posted March 16, 2016 Posted March 16, 2016 It's like your asking a guy at the AA meeting if a cold one sounds good. Of course you need another guitar.
rwinking Posted March 16, 2016 Author Posted March 16, 2016 That makes perfect sense. And another thing I thought of.....I have an H-140 and an H-170 and the bodies are a little thinner. I also have an H150, but I am thinking that the H-157 is black and has gold hardware and double binding which will fill a tonal niche for me, right? and Mr. High Flying Bird, I am not sure if your AA analogy really works. I think it is more like asking someone who should be in AA if it is ok to have that 15th shot of Jack. "Sure. I have had 15 shots tonight and one more is not going to hurt on little bit. Go for it." I just need someone like you to blame this on. "Yeah, a guy on the Heritage forum told me that it was ok to buy this guitar and perfectly normal to have five Heritage's and then get a sixth." Thanks so much!
DetroitBlues Posted March 16, 2016 Posted March 16, 2016 Why not get another Heritage? Considering a new 157 is near $3k, this is a good deal. Some of paid more for used 150's...
schundog Posted March 16, 2016 Posted March 16, 2016 Scratches, especially on the back of a used guitar don't bother me, as long as I get a discount on the purchase price. I would want a 157 to be pretty stinkin' clean for $1600 used. $1200 would be a VERY good deal for a slightly marred 157, in my opinion. Regarding the pickups, if there are two adjustment screws on each side of the pickup, they are Schallers, most likely. They could STILL be Schallers with different pickup covers with one screw per side. If you want to know for sure, you'll have to pull them and look underneath. I would have to agree with Bird's comment, haha. The way I have tried to justify a purchase like this to myself is to remind myself that I'm not buying a house, high end car, or something similarly life changing. It's a used guitar, and, unless I foolishly grossly overpay, I'm not likely to lose too much money if and when it becomes time to move it on down the road. Any financial loss will hopefully be offset by the enjoyment I've had while the instrument was mine. Good luck!

Farmboyjo Posted March 21, 2016 Posted March 21, 2016 That makes perfect sense. And another thing I thought of.....I have an H-140 and an H-170 and the bodies are a little thinner. 'The tonal niche!' That's why I have a red Ernie Ball Edie Van Halen, and a blue Ernie Ball EVH. It's for when I need to play blues-ier music! Actually I'm pretty lucky...as long as my wife think's the guitar is 'pretty' then I'm 95% of the way there. Thank God Heritages are so nice looking, and made Michigan helps too.
Yooper Posted March 21, 2016 Posted March 21, 2016 Heritage is love. We all need love. The more the better. Therefore I'm pretty sure we ALL need another Heritage, or three.
