Holty Posted April 2, 2016 Posted April 2, 2016 I've been looking at getting a Hertiage for some time and now in a position to pick one up. What sort of price should I be looking to pay for one in the UK?I'm looking at 535/555's. They don't seem to come up that often over here.
houndhome Posted April 2, 2016 Posted April 2, 2016 I paid £1900 for my H555 in ASB a couple of years ago, which I didnt regard as cheap but H555's are much rarer in the UK, this one was as new, totally mint, and had been selected at the factory off the rack by the UK importer. If you are looking for new then look at the prices charged by High End Guitars and see if they have leeway in that price,my guess is that they will offer a keener price for a sale. I have to say that my Super Eagle,Golden Eagle and H150 Ultra all cost less than the H555.

I bought my 535 brand new last year (High End Guitars) for £2,000. There are some occasionally on eBay - worth checking out. There's one at the moment for £1,175 which seems a really good price!

Holty Posted April 3, 2016 Author Posted April 3, 2016 Thanks for the replays. I haven't come across High End Guitars so will check them out.
houndhome Posted April 3, 2016 Posted April 3, 2016 High End Guitars do advertise their new Heritages on ebay so this may help with their initial asking prices. With ref to photos I've been having trouble posting these, but I did put pics on a couple of years ago along with my H575,but I bought that one over 20 years ago for £550.If you can look back to round 2 years ago you should be able to find them (the Golden Eagle is acoustic but with a K&K pickup under the top) Best of luck with your search, let us all know how you get on
houndhome Posted April 3, 2016 Posted April 3, 2016 Further to above posting,I've just looked at ebay UK and there is a S/H 2003 H535 for £1175,also another for £2000 (too pricey?) and High End Guitars are showing a new one for £2199.The £1175 one sounds like it might be reasonable value.

bobmeyrick Posted April 3, 2016 Posted April 3, 2016 The 535 mentioned by houndhome looks pretty good and the price is at the lower end of what they sell for. Depending on where you are in the UK it might be worth contacting the seller and asking if you could try it out. Hinckley is pretty central - just off the M69 and accessible form the M1 and M6. I bought my 535 from High End guitars in 2009, for £1800. It's one of the few guitars I've bought new, and has HRW pickups - the one on eBay seems to have standard Schallers, judging by the 2-per-side mounting screws, and the bridge and tailpiece appear to be TonePros. I see it also comes with the original Heritage case. At £1,175 I'd say it's priced to sell - you're unlikely to find one cheaper.
houndhome Posted April 4, 2016 Posted April 4, 2016 US dealers are another way to go.I bought my H150 Ultra from Connecticut for $1425.By the time it arrived on my doorstep the cost was about £1325 (shipping and taxes). If there is a problem of course then you are a long way from the dealer! In my case the dealer,Brians Guitars, was great and a pleasure to deal with, but it is a gamble.I wouldnt think that you would get one into the UK for less than £1175,but its worth looking,
Holty Posted April 4, 2016 Author Posted April 4, 2016 At £1,175 I'd say it's priced to sell - you're unlikely to find one cheaper. That's a really useful guide, many thanks. There is a 1990 535 on the fretboard forum that is up for sale for £1275, which is pretty close to me so I could try it out. That sounds like it's up at a reasonable price. It's got SD pickups, so assume these have been changed. I think I'll see if I can try this one out before looking at new options. Thanks for all the advice

Thanks for all the advice I think there was a change from Schaller hardware/pickups to TonePros/Seymour Duncan in the early 2000s (I could be wrong). Changing the bridge/tailpiece is straightforward - the Gibson Nashville set (or equivalent) is a direct replacement. Just looked at the 1990 535 in the fretboard forum and the pickups are JBJ and JNJ - the Jeff Beck bridge and Jazz neck wound by Marciella Juarez, and apparently quite sought after... See if you can give the guitar a try - if it says "take me, I'm yours", buy it!
