falcon47 Posted April 8, 2016 Posted April 8, 2016 Hello All- I'm thinking about getting an H-555 and not quite sure about the date(s) on it-The serial number is L00301- A nice natural grainy top-I think it's a '95, not sure-It has the gold hardware, which I don't really care for, but it's a 555- I already have a nice cherry burst Prospect with Seth Lollars, and absolutely love it- Any help or advice from those who know is greatly appreciated- Thanks! Jerry
Millennium Maestro Posted April 8, 2016 Posted April 8, 2016 L is 95, Dec 28, first guitar of the day... which means it probably left the factory in Jan 96. Gold is standard on a 555 Those are great guitars!
falcon47 Posted April 10, 2016 Author Posted April 10, 2016 OK Thanks! Any idea as to which pups they put in it? The guy that has it doesn't know- I expect I'd be happy with whatever they did-
Millennium Maestro Posted April 10, 2016 Posted April 10, 2016 Jerry, 4 screws=Schaller Dotted toggle is a marker for HRW's... There is a build tag inside the f holes which may tell you. Schallers would be the factory's stock pickup in that era.
mark555 Posted April 10, 2016 Posted April 10, 2016 I am not a fan of Gold hardware, so I replaced all the hardware on my own 555 with nickel and it looks great. For some reason I can't upload a picture, sorry about that.
falcon47 Posted April 11, 2016 Author Posted April 11, 2016 Thanks Guys! I'm mistaken about my Prospect's pickups- They're the SD Seth Lovers- I understand the Lollars are great, too. I'm just having a difficult time trying to rationalize trading my Prospect for the 555-Mainly the body size, I think-I like the smaller size, but this 555 is a nice one-
Gitfiddler Posted April 11, 2016 Posted April 11, 2016 Thanks Guys! I'm mistaken about my Prospect's pickups- They're the SD Seth Lovers- I understand the Lollars are great, too. I'm just having a difficult time trying to rationalize trading my Prospect for the 555-Mainly the body size, I think-I like the smaller size, but this 555 is a nice one- I totally understand your dilemma. Keep the Prospect and trade something else towards the 555.
kidsmoke Posted April 11, 2016 Posted April 11, 2016 Completely a subjective choice. If the 555 speaks to you, then it does. But for my part, you couldn't pry a cherryburst prospect from my hands for anything, let alone something so functionally similar that you already know you want to change, which you don't know what she sounds like, neck, harness etc. Buy the 555 -strong vote of encouragement, trade the prospect for it? why, I outta Just my .02 How about some pics of the Prospect just for yucks?
