Blunote Posted May 31, 2016 Posted May 31, 2016 Wow, that is what I call Herculean restraint for a confirmed GASer such as yourself. [emoji55] Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
yoslate Posted May 31, 2016 Posted May 31, 2016 DB~ Your honesty and openness is to be admired. Music and gear can be a ton of fun. That fun is very personal and different for each person. For some, it's the hunt for that special guitar, pedal or amp so they can wang away at it in our homes, or maybe jam with friends. Some folks just like the look, feel and sound of gear and trying out new stuff...Maybe buying and selling is a fun adventure for them. For others it is finding the right tool for the job...nothing more. Whatever the reason, it should be an enjoyable journey. When it ceases to be fun, it's time to back away and re-think...reset. The latter sounds like your position. Do what feels best for you...and be happy....enjoy your family and friends. If playing guitar once again tickles your fancy, then go with it. If not, leave it in the case and do other stuff. Whatever you decide...Enjoy yourself! Wisdom, as usual, from Gitfiddler! From another perspective...at sixty-three, I'm in the best musical place I've ever been. I'm taking lessons from a fine teacher, who's really opening things up for me in terms of understanding some of the pretty basic mysteries of the instrument. I'm in a band which is modestly successful, and often rewarding. I have acquired more really nice pedals, amps, and guitars than anyone has any right to. That having been said...like everything else, it's a binary system. There are times I haven't practiced for a week, and I go to my lesson ill-prepared, winging it. Much of the band's business falls to me: the merch; the website; the rehearsal space landlord; the high-strung bassist who handles the booking and is driven NUTS by the egotistical frontman; the talented, egotistical, fit-pitching frontman whom we've named "Todd," which is short for toddler. There are always new tunes to learn. Load-in, load-out. Why do I have all of this...stuff, the storage of which eats up a lot of space in our small house?! How can I justify this acquisition? Do I have to justify it? Then, I think about how soon I'll likely grow away from all of this. So, I try just to dig where I am. Soon enough, I'll be somewhere else.... As Colonel Potter once said to Hawkeye: "Son, if you aren't where you are, you're nowhere...." Just be where you are, DB.
