myoldfriend Posted July 6, 2016 Posted July 6, 2016 Although I suppose this would apply to just about any bound body guitar with a cap and a cutaway... Does anyone know if there is a technical term for the little sliver of cap (at least I'm assuming that's what it is) revealing itself inside the cutaway (see arrows below)?
High Flying Bird Posted July 6, 2016 Posted July 6, 2016 That is just the way it is done. Don't question it. ;^)
Kuz Posted July 6, 2016 Posted July 6, 2016 Yes, it is referred to as the "moon" as in crescent moon. It was always noticeable on the vintage Gibsons. Some newer guitars made by new companies are extending the binding to cover the moon, but it is a vintage aspect of single cut LP/150 guitars. As for what it is, it is just the maple cap visible.
schundog Posted July 6, 2016 Posted July 6, 2016 As Paul Harvey used to say, "And now you know..... The REST of the story...." Good to know!
